This is the correct course of action. In a patient with moderate to severe hypothermia, you want to warm them up gradually and with ambient heat. A blanket and turning up the heat in the room is best. Applying direct heat via heated blanket and warm water is dangerous as this causes blood to flow to the extremities. This in turn causes sudden drop in blood pressure and core temperature, leading to a form of hypovolemic shock and subsequent cardiac arrest.
