Eh.. two chapters in and Kanata is already kind of bland to read. I guess there's a glimmer of steel there at the end but still..

What happened to our original MC, the childhood friend that Yue left? Will he be returning? Or was his character scrapped?

I've enjoyed just about everything Sage of Eyes has put out, and its still very early in this series so I'll reserve series judgment but I just have one issue. Kanata feels like a bad character. Maybe there are plans to make him a actually useful/good character but right now it feels like the only reason he's breathing is that it's an involuntary response, the fact that he's not dead to be in an even more restful state is that it's to much trouble to kill himself. (If it's not obvious I don't like this character.)

I apologize if this is rude, not sure how to phrase it. I think the story would benefit a lot if we got to see more of thE MC's personality traits asap: If their laziness is paired with something it makes them more interesting/ lets you mix up tones. Right now, it's an amusing joke, but any joke gets old when you hear it repeatedly.

The main carry right now is just the mystery of what happened to the two, I want to read more about the desolate spear then the current protagonist tbh.

I quite like this story, and the two are cute together. But it would be nice to get some bigger plots going, or have more character viewpoints to expand things.

Not sure if the laziness is more of a gag/in joke or if he is actually that lazy. Either way with that attitude he probably died fairly early. I am curious how he'll develop, as he could be more like Shikamaru from Naruto and is a genius but would prefer to be lazy until disaster strikes.
