Nothing Seems To Fill This Place | Sacred Symbols, Episode 397

In the wake the reveal of the PC-only MMORPG Steel Frontiers late last year, the other long-rumored Horizon multiplayer game has finally been announced. It's called Hunters Gathering, it's in development internally at Guerrilla, and it's set to launch on both PS5 and PC at some point in the future. Excited? Well, some of you (and us!) are. But the response at this early hour has been mixed. Is Horizon being overexposed? Where's the third core game? What's with this obsession with multiplayer? From our perspective, it seems like nothing pleases anyone these days. We discuss. Plus: Sony's FY Q3 '25 financials show profit growth and strong console sales, Grand Theft Auto VI's promised November release date seems to be solidifying, The Last of Us on HBO may not go past a third season, rumors say Starfield launches on PlayStation 5 in April, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What are our favorite gaming-related revelations from the Epstein Files? Is Resident Evil: Requiem being overexposed? Should the industry worry about Google's Genie 3 environmental AI module? Will Colin continue to take unpredictable call-ins on Sacred Streaming? Follow the hosts! Any concerns I had about the call-in streams were quickly alleviated. Jaffe is great when he's on LSM. Would love to see them do the call-in show maybe every other week. I agree with Colin that political topics should be avoided as they will undoubtedly piss people off, but more personal calls like the divorce guy would be amazing. Keep exploring new stream ideas. Yall playing some co-op would be much more entertaining than the single player streams.

As one of the write ins I thought I’d clarify. It would be easy to misunderstand what I meant in a write in that I’m of course trying to keep as brief & concise as possible. When I say Hunters Gathers looks fortnite esque I actually did truly mean more so the feel & vibe actually more so than the artwork. The way the game seemed to have a non serious kinda tone combined with the artwork style I myself could imagine in my head Peter griffin or whatever other random crossover being present in Hunters Gathering. It’s worth noting I entirely agree actually with what Colin was saying with his borderlands example being a great example. But for me in this specific instance my comparison to fortnite (as someone who played fortnite back around the BR launching) runs a lot deeper than the art style. I of course also acknowledge my impression this far before release could be way off base. Cheers guys

Responding to the comments regarding Horizons art style. - Pretending like it's not Fortnite's aesthetic at this point is just bizarre cope. If someone said it's Horizon but Fortnite it's EXACTLY what you'd picture it to be, I literally (and I'm saying this honestly not for exaggeration) thought the first image I seen of it was an AI slop meme someone made as a joke before I seen it was official. Even go ask ChatGPT to make a Box art for a Fortnite level based on a cross over world with Horizon forbidden west and you get a damn near 1 - 1 representation of the main art shown.

As a person who got the platinum for the first Horizon game and loved it, not gonna lie, the way this new game looks is a major let down for me.

When I first worked at a theater, Pixar movies were the worst. I definitely remember using a leaf blower to clean the auditoriums showing the Toy Story 1 and 2 double feature in 2014. How could there be so much trash... how could it be?
