20 years ago (!!!!!!!), Mastodon released their landmark album "Leviathan", and I HAD to learn EVERY SONG on it... but what did it teach me, and what can we all learn from this encyclopedia of RIFFS?! That's what we are gonna talk about today!!!

Very excited to watch this. Opeth would be another good choice. Lots of idiosyncratic elements to Åkerfeldt’s approach. Would love to have a break down of some of Fredrik’s playing as well.

That dunable is so beautiful. I'd give up a damn toe for an Asteroid Custom. Mastodon's the only metal band I've ever heard that had hybrid picking. It's always fascinated me as I was raised to be a strict alternate picker.

So freakin’ cool. Never really paid attention or heard Mastodon, but now I need to listen to some lost at sea vibes. Something else you could do (just because there are no real good tabs there) would be to break down King Diamond’s “Them”. That’s more of a “40 years ago, this is what came out of Denmark…” kinda thing.

Also fuck yeah that Dunable is a sick ass guitar the more I look at it. How would an ignorant ass Step Nephew create a Mastodon tone out of an orange amp and Rat Pedal? I don't have all the badass preamps and stuff...in this video the tone was amazing. I feel like half my guitar battle is wading through shit ass plugins trying to understand what good sounds like.

Nice inspiring video! And true what you say about not always trusting blindly on tabs. One thing i was wondering tho... At the 5.53 you play the lowerer part of the riff before... But in your cover of I Am Ahab of about 9 years ago you play it ever lowlyier on the neck... Which one is righter/betterer?
