Sick deals on all kinds of good stuff: https://imp.i114863.net/jxdA0 Steve Lukather makes MAGIC happen every time he's in the studio (or onstage!), and Toto's HIT "Rosanna" is a perfect example of how! Here recently on YouTube, I found Luke's isolated guitar track, and I was stunned by how many cool ideas he hid in the mix! A lot of times it's simple stuff, but it all adds up to make something great than its individual parts. In this video, we are gonna take a look at the tones, techniques, riffs, licks, and solo that make this song so awesome, and see what we can learn from it! Playing my EBMM Luke III into the Bad Cat Jet Black. Using the UA OX and Logic plugins for studio magic. What Lukather tune deserves a deep dive next? Tell your Uncle Ben Eller in the comments! #stevelukather #toto #rosanna #guitarlesson

Watching this right now, you did a fantastic job!

Ben, don't know how much you're into Lukather and his music. But if you only know him from Toto I recommend also checking out this live video from back in the with his solo band. Killer stuff and so much groovy and jazzy stuff in that set! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b6PirYBSdg

Thanks man, I love these breakdowns of stuff way outside my usual musical diet...I generally only listen to my Limp Bizkit / Matchbox 20 mixtape cd Random thought- Ben Eller takes on why Guitarists love Prince?

John

Ben, please do a presentation on Lukather's Talk to Ya Later outro solo for The Tubes hit song on which Steve was guest guitarist! That one is smoking! For Rosanna outro, Steve himself breaks some of it down on a 1980s Starlicks video which can be watched on YouTube (so-so video quality from VHS transfer).

lynn jones

Luke ROCKS especially his rhythm playing

Rory Kling

Do we want a breakdown of the Outro to "Roseanna"? Hell Yeah!

Chris Brown

Break down that outro!!!

Glenn Lysack

Yep, go for it Uncle Ben!

Wilton Cornett

Yes, full break down of the outro solo

Brian Anderson

His solo on Boz Scaggs’ “Breakdown Dead Ahead” might be the coolest thing he ever played. Luke is such a damn legend…

John

That's a great solo too! Didn't know that was SL's work.

Gregg B.

This is cool. I learned this back in HS stage band. I would get in trouble for turning it metal with power chords but it sounded siiiick. And he wouldn't let me play those high stabs because that was for the saxophones. Boo Mr. Wilson. Booo. lol.

Doug Bracey

Thanks for this. Can’t get enough of the classic rock stuff! I’m adding my vote for a full break down of the outro stuff.

Pete Sav

Awesome Ben, more Luke more Luke!!

Willohwell

Definite yes for the outro solo! Having a hard time figuring out some parts of it on my own :D

Boykinheplay

I say Yay since you volunteered! Let’s do the outro

Joel Alain

More Luke! Especially the outro solo !!

Anna Heijne

Would you be willing to share the Logic File for the fx you used? PS your pedalboard?

Anna Heijne

Yes please breakdown the outro

John Bonelli

New Patreon and huge fan. Awesome video on Rosanna.

T Friesen

Definitely breakdown the fried gold at the end of Rosanna! The fade out chokes that ripping Luke does at the end.
