Haven't heard that song in over 20 years ... brilliant piece of analysis, thanks.

Has anyone ever got to the bottom of who actually played that solo? Ed isn’t much of a lead guy and the actually guys from the band didn’t show up until it was a hit.

chris kocher

Scratch that it was Ross. Just that’s the only part of the song anyone from the credited played.

You could turn on your MTV after school and hear this song every hour for like a whole year...replaced by Black Hole Sun shortely thereafter! lol 90s memories man...

I completely forgot about this song, but as soon as I heard that first measure the light went on! The song itself has that hopeful/DUNK approach you mentioned and it reminds me of songs like 'Mind Riot,' and even 'Funeral Singers.' Given the recent nod to Soundgarden by the RnR-HoF, I'm gonna suggest a little love for Kim Thayil. Lots of good stuff on Superunknown too(though not limited to it by any means). Digressing, but it was shocking to find that Cocker had only just now been inducted. And Zevon? Who is running that place? Anywho, mind is wandering. Kim Thayil!

Never have I ever been able to get past the -yeah- because it's just too dorky.

The guitar tone on this is a great example of Wabi Sabi. If not perfectly imperfect, it's more interesting because of all the things that are "wrong" with it.

Great video Uncle Ben. That tuning catch is diabolical. Thanks for shouting out food banks at the end. Great cause.

Hell, Yeah !!!! Collective Soul is a treasure for sure......

Yarl! Fantastic video! This formula is awesome (1) song background, history, personal anecdotes (2), gear rundown, (3) tone rundown and opinons/analysis, (4) overall theory context, (5) chord progression+theory+analysis, (6) solo+theory+technique+analysis [or pointer to previous solo lesson], (7) wrap. Studio trickeration covered in relevant section. Whate more do you need? Not a thing.

I’m glad you dig it! These videos are my absolute favorite to make. It’s really everything I ever wanted to do with my channel!

One of my favorite bands growing up. Thanks for the accurate tab. I even checked out your old lesson for the picking pattern. I have everything down except that first fast part of the solo. Any tips on nailing that? I feel like I'm around 125 BPM or so...but can't get it up to speed. Just keep hitting that lick with a metronome?
