As promised, here's a special Patreon exclusive just for you all!! What's making that 5150 tone SO MAGICAL?!?! It's a combo of nice things working nicely together, and I'm gonna show you layer by layer. It's SOOOOO fun to play on! Just wait till I do the wet/dry version of this rig, it will seriously blow your mind. Its even closer to that era of Van Halen tone!!!!

Enjoy, and let me know any questions you've got, or if there's a single piece of gear you'd like to learn more about on a Meet the Machines episode!

Patreon Exclusive! My 5150 Tone!

Comments

Eric M.

So damn good

Tor

LOVE this kind of video! Maybe even more than the ones about the riffs...? Please keep these coming 🙏 (and what a tone!)

Kenny Roscoe

My brain just eruption’d. Thanks Buncle Een!

Chris Nicol

Really inspiring! I bought an OX earlier this year, and am really intimidated to set it up.

Chris Nicol

I feel motivated now!

Heath

I wouldn't know how to run all that stuff together.

David

Very nice!!

Sean O

Great - exactly the kind of details I hope for... thanks!

Thom Marz

Thanks for the gut shots of the signal chain.

Martin Cloutier

Thank you so much, I don't have access to all that high end stuff, but it's surprising nowadays all we can do with a small multi effects or a Boss Katana and GarageBand... you give me some ideas to expriment with...

Diogo Camacho

As a guy who’s still trying to figure out how to plug in the compression in the chain and what settings the chorus and reverb should have for a good metal sound and blues sound, this blew my mind. Thank you sir!

Chuck Saeger

That sounds so good but this stuff is just used in your studio, right? How would you approach this on stage?

Shawn Bayless

I got lost when you said 26.1ms left and 21.6ms right LoL I honestly wish one of you guys would do a tutorial on how to use pedals, mixers, DWA’s and etc It would be killer to learn this.

BenEllerGuitars

Yo!!! I could do it live, yeah. Use the OX to send wet signal to front of house, and split it to a dry cab onstage that’s mic’d up!

Chuck Saeger

My tone could use some help. I can’t afford all that gear and my practice time is relegated to non amplified due to a wife who is deaf in one ear but hears every note I play.

Doyle Johnson

Awesome Uncle Ben! Question, would you be up for doing something for us solid state users with maybe the OX stomp? I got all excited and then was crushed to find out the OX only works with tube amps...

NYCM&AHole

I hear Glenn Fricker in my head every time someone says speakers change tone the most.

Paul

Really excellent video Ben. You know your stuff. The Ox seems to be the best item to have in the studio. Vs, say a Kemper or other. Thanks for your insight into your world. 🌎

Darren Bruestle

I learned so dang much from this tutorial! Wow. Thank you. You explained that so damn well! I could also feel what you meant, too, with the perma-stoked vibe you create there in the “cone of tone.” All day, a happy place, ha.

Wes Chandler

I wish I had this patch for the Helix...so choice, Ben....gg's!

Saaz Karimi

Very cool setup! What is the riff you played between 7:20 and 7 :45 in the video?

Jeramy Ashlock

Thanks, this is great! Scuffham S-Gear is limited to two instances of a delay processor in standalone mode, so I made one preset with short 22ms and 27ms delays panned hard left and right, and another preset using a 25ms stereo delay to cop the short delay part and a 350ms stereo delay to cop the longer delay. Althought the times are not exactly equal to yours, all the other tips got me really close! I posted the two presets over on the forum at scuffhamamps.com if any S-Gear users want to try and tweak them out.

Joe Williams

Exactly my situation - I’m using a Katana and it would be “neat” if Ben could help guys that are not super technical on the equipment side - but of course love to play, and find themselves ALWAYS practicing VH riffs

Jeff Kolek

This video alone (okay, maybe the 5150 one too) makes me soooo glad I joined Ben's Patreon. Thank you for this Ben
