So this took almost an extra two weeks! Sorry about that; my schedule is all over the place at the moment.

CWs: sexual assault, height dysphoria, slurs

Edit: Zoe caught the “Julie/Julia” mistake first, you can stop messaging me about it :3

Second edit: A new ending to the third-to-last scene. I moved some plot elements for space and pacing reasons to the next chapter, and I wasn’t happy with where this chapter left one of the characters. So I’ve made a minor clarifying edit.

Third edit: Lil continuity fix.

Holy FUCK, Alyson. Just. Wow. Okay. I’ll be picking up the shards of my skull for the next day or so. 🤯

ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE WAIT

You made me root for Declan and I’m pretty sure that’s a crime.

I just finished reading. It's hard to gather all my thoughts other than just, wow. That was an amazing read.

Woohoo! They didn’t escape cleanly, but that wasn’t ever a reasonable thought. So excited to see the Val/Bea reunion! Her freezing up seeing the open world is very reminiscent of how Beth froze at the party, just out of the basement. Just more significant, since it’s been decades longer, a wider place, and represents actual freedom. Get Elle’s PMC to wade in there quick. Silly thought: they do just in time to save Jake from Declan, since Elle’s observer might have witnessed the escape. I hope Amy’s right about Rachel. And happy she’s found Jane. I wonder how Frankie will be received. This is such a hopeful spot to end on. We didn’t see Steph+Beth, but that feels more than ok.

Very awesome and perfectly timed! Now I can sit back and relax with a good Dorley chapter on my first day of recovery from top surgery. 😌

Wow ❣️❣️❣️

That was...heavy. Such contrasts between the sweet start to the chapter and everything else that came after it. I wonder how many more wounds we'll rip open before the end of book three 🥺 (not that I can't appreciate it!)

Only came across this series after a mention by Emory on her page. Have since read the first two books and up to date with book three's chapters. So many tears shed, so many jealousies, so much identify & empathy. Look forward to next month very much.

Alyson... This is incredible. You've outdone yourself with this chapter, truly. The narrative tension (holy crap), the emotional depth (😢), the character development - it all just comes together in a crescendo. Your ability to juggle multiple storylines and bring them all to such a satisfying juncture is just damn masterful. The Declan / Dina internal dialogue was especially powerful. The raw, visceral emotions you portrayed were so intense. How can you make me root for them! Valérie's escape was harrowing and exhilarating. I felt every moment of her desperation. The scene was cinematic, almost palpable in its intensity. I still don't know about Frankie, but we'll see!
