hello everyone, I'm working on improving stability, uncached full files will take a while to load and imports are a bit backlogged both due to bandwidth. Thank you.

Given the last chapter, what direction do ya think it should go?

This will greatly affect the middle arc of the story

better to stay undercover since it lets you use more tactics. You can still tell everyone trusted (all relic knights), but the general population won't know. You can show all of your powers underground or in areas that no one can see (or no enemy survivors). In the coming war, enemy relic knights could be herded to a hidden bunker to be killed with the winterblossom technique

He doesn't have anywhere near the experience needed to make such a decision, or to plan or even understand everything the clan would need to do to survive in the paths Atius described. He isn't a leader, I'm sure he knows enough to run the house in Kidra's absence but that much has been made clear. Reckon it could be a test from Atius on how ready he is to accept responsibility, but still don't think it's the correct thing to make a decision himself. The responsibility would be hollow because he isn't equipped to handle the consequences. Just from a "how should the story go" way though I'd go for the first one. The machines are the real enemies (I think?) so it's not like he'll be around to see the consequences of his actions if Atius fails to deal with the warlocks

I guess it depends on how you want the story to go, being hidden is very winterscar like and we know how they ended up. It should be interesting at least

I do think shadow song should be called back in and given the secret. Just to give context how close he almost fucked up.

Keith would be immediately putting a giant target on his back, and his entire clan's back, if he went fully public. There would undoubtedly be those in the clan that would be too afraid of the the occult-monopoly and sabotage from within. It wouldn't matter if they fended off the coming attack, their clan would disintegrate in a few years just from politics and pressure. As regards reparations from the other house head, he should definitely run it by his sister first. Some crafty or forward thinking requests would focus on cementing an alliance and casting off the old scheming Winterscar image. Perhaps training their knights together or having him personally train Kidra? If he trained Kidra, he gets to take some credit for her success, and be taught in turn. I freely admit I am not the political type, but further antagonizing that guy seems like just bad mojo.

Patience is power here. Keith will be able to work astonishing things in a decade or two with the clans help. And the deathless think im centuries, not decades. Hide his discoveries, but use them, for instance by claiming he discifiered a map to a long lost hidden storeroom with hundreds of standard occult swords and knifes. Have the small house who manufacured the plain blades be the ones credited with the final discovery of the store room, to keep them silent. Then hint that there may have been other weapons there too. Keith gets recognition motivating the clan lords future favor, morale increases, suspicion is managed, and the desperately needed weapons are provided. I get the narrative temptation to invent new weapons, but thats as good as going public. There is a brilliant scene in the alan turing movie where after cracking enigma turing stops his coworker from saving his friend, remarking that for the advantage to remain, they could not use most of the information. In history churchill spoke in a small town which he knew would be destroyed that night, and though he was photographed with what some consider a haunted look, he said nothing, warned no one. The latter turns into a far better narrative. A new weapon lasts a cool scene or two, sure. But the kinds of secrets that not only shift fortunes, but may force good characters to turn against each other, for sensible understandable reasons, that makes for good stories.

An interesting idea is that the spread of knowledge may not be stoppable if it is simultaneously revealed everywhere at once. Meaning keith and the clan lord could work towards creating a hidden order which slowly spreads this information to a member in every group before a planned synchronize reveal. Now that i think about it, what if the warlocks are, or are supposed to be done ng that. Would be interesting to have them show up not all gung ho supress the competition, but rather. A single powerless scholar begging them to keep the secret so the plan yo save the world, millenia in the making can be kept on track.

I strongly agree with this. I'm no genius at interpersonal relationships but both those ideas sound excellent. Ideally you'd demand a concession that benefits both houses while at the same time thing their fates together.

I feel like keith would make the first choice after a lot of deliberation. So long as he feels confident that he isnt inciting an apocalypse, that is. Narratively, i feel like the second choice makes more sense, since the drama of a secret weapon in the final moments is a fantasy staple. Although, rationally, the third choice is the most obvious (and the one id choose myself). As somebody else has already said, Keith is NOT suited to make such history altering decisions such as these. Atius is the only person with a full enough picture to properly weigh the costs of each decision.

I think it’ll be hilarious to prevent Kieth from gloating about all this.

I think keeping it secret would be best. However Keith is an engineer so why not have him fool people by just creating occult weapons and items under the guise of new technology. He had already done the same with the radiator. He could still help and mass produce items and over time would most likely be as revered as relic armour. You could walk the line between truth and lies without going completely one direction or the other. Is he a genius inventor or a mysterious warlock. Let people's gossip and superstition obfuscate the reality.

I would imagine Keith's sister would end up coming up with the solution of a political marriage. It would make for a lot of fun and awkward situations for Keith.
