1981 Clash of the Titans (We don't talk about the remake!)

"Release the Krakken!"

If you like Greek mythology, this is the one for you!!

Basic summary of Clash of the Titans

Perseus, son of the Greek god Zeus, grows up on a deserted island. His destiny is to marry Princess Andromeda, who will someday rule the city of Joppa. But as long as the satyr Calibos -- who uses a giant vulture to kidnap Andromeda's soul every night -- is alive, no one can marry her. Perseus travels to Joppa, where he must defeat Calibos and other mythological monsters to rescue Andromeda.

OK, so this is not technically a horror. But it is one of my top 10 movies of all time, and it's where my love of stop-frame animation began. As kids, my brothers and I had our eyes glued to the screen watching Clash of the Titans most Sunday afternoons. My favourite part was when Perseus is about to enter Medusa's lair, and a fight breaks out with a skeleton crew, just before taking on the gorgon herself.

After noticing my love for this movie, my parents then introduced me to other Ray Harryhausen movies (Ray being the Animator). All of the Sinbads, One Million Years B.C., Mysterious Island and Jason and the Argonauts, to name a few. I LOVE THEM ALL!

As you can see, my love for this particular movie continues into adulthood with this massive Clash of the Titans print that sits proudly in my living room!

Have you seen any of the Harryhausen movies? Let me know which one is your favourite.

Just seen a clip of a film released in 2024. Have you ever seen "Abigail" Jonesy? Looks intriguing 👌

I absolutely love this movie! I watched it so many times growing up I completely lost count. There are so many great things about it, I love Bubo the little owl. The Medusa section is amazing, she scared me so much as a child. And I really like the part where he fights with Calibos. I think that Jason and the Argonauts, just pips it for me. Another movie that I watched countless times. Ray Harryhausen was an absolute genius with stop motion, so much expression in all his characters. I think it's also one of the reasons I love Army of Darkness so much, the Skeletons were straight out of the Harryhausen vibe of my childhood.
