Amazon/Kindle opinion. (Patreon)

I'm toying with the idea of peddling older content via Amazon's Kindle, perhaps as collected works, maybe two or three similarly themed comics per book. Given how much is available there; they certainly don't seem to have a problem with such material
What are people's opinion on such a move, and the Kindle platform in general?

They may censor it a bit, I honestly don't know. But I use the platform for books and some comics and it makes for an easy system for the consumer to use.

As long as it's uncut, I'd gladly buy it from Kindle/Amazon.

I have sold smut on amazon, but I seem to recall the fees / payout structure isn't great. Personally, my erotica was lost in a sea of smut on there, but for your use, you can just direct your fans to it easily enough. And yes, it seems like the kindle store is basically the wild west in terms of content, I remember being in awe of how much sexual content was on there. All kinds of monster-sex novels written from a non-furry perspective, right there on ~amazon~ of all places

Hardest part I can remember was setting up getting first royalty paycheck from them but have been pretty automatic after that. They won’t go out of their way but they pretty much leave you alone for the most part. I ended up going with Itch(.)io as my main storefront. Also as for their print on demand titles it’s something I’d be interested in, but having to format through their own system was a bit of headache . So someone would have to really locked in and learn to format a pdf the right way, which I might give another try.

The kindle platform might be great for your audience, but I don't know if it's great for YOU, as the seller. It's been so long since I actually used it, but I remember there being some kind of option for letting amazon take larger or smaller cuts of your sales profits, for some reason, based on the price you wanted to offer the item at, and how much of their assistance in selling you wanted to engage with

You mean the same Amazon that killed Comixology by merging it with their Kindle dreck, and got rid of the DRM-free PDF download option(!) publishers could opt into in the process? Not ever touching that one again with a hundred foot pole... Which is to say - if I can't download an unencumbered copy of whatever you're selling, I'll not be buying it... :/

I personally don't use Kindle, but I see no problem with branching out.

Can I save it as PDF for my collection? I usually save your comics after purchase on my cloud (for my own use only).

I dislike their DRM heavy, kindle only approach. Remind me of ITunes or adobe. I’d prefer a plateform that just let you download the pdf file.

You certainly can! I think in my case, I took the 'added promotion from amazon' option with Part 1 of a 6 part smut series, and then the other parts were set up to be more profit going to me, with no help on the promotion - but if someone was directed toward part 1, they should naturally find the other parts on their own, I thought. In the end, I never sold much on amazon, because my work is very niche TF kink.

I know next to nothing about the inner workings of Amazon/Kindle (and I haven't touched Kindle at all), but I'd rather not use Amazon anymore than I already do - which admittedly isn't a lot. That said, I'll have an easier time accepting your wanting to set up shop there if you're able to offer more than one way to purchase your work. Some of your comics are available via PayPal, for instance (how's that even possible, by the way?).

Works very well for me. Big fan of the Kindle as a reading thingus. This might be the push that convinces me to get a color one. ;p

I don't use kindle, and I try to stay as far away from amazon as possible, so I can't really offer much of an opinion on this one.

I'd rather not use kindle or any Amazon affiliated products, even just for distribution.

Don't sell content through Kindle unless you have some Chloe-related fiction to sell. If you sour your relationship with Amazon, you might not be able to sell pin-up posters of Chloe on regular Amazon later.

I could buy books of Eric Schwartz's work on Amazon, including Tales from Fur After Dark. So I don't think censorship is too big a concern.

Kindle format is only available for Amazon devices. But ePub is compatible with all brands. If the Amazon store allows the later then sure, no problem.

I've seen people do itch.io for comics stuff as well. Has some basic features with follow creator, search and such. No idea how it works from the creator perspective.

It has some ups and downs. For example, it doesn't have the same properties in Comixology, you can't have one panel of the page to full screen

I do all my regular reading on kindle. That includes graphic novels and comics. For those I use the kindle app on iPad or desktop, so as to get color. This works well.

I have most, if not all, of your older content so not much impact to me either way. I would prefer if new releases had an option for PDFs or images though!

In theory, Kindle would be AN option for purchase, not THE ONLY option. Depends if Itch.io goes the way of Gumroad.

I like being able to privately own the content, tying it to a platform that ties it to my name directly is scary to me.

Not a bad idea. Even if it doesn't totally work out, or if you set up a regular online store for yourself, there's no reason not to try it out. I mainly publish fiction on Kindle, but there are some authors who have sold their comics there. Check with Udderscomix.

If so, I'd really love to see stuff at a higher resolution. I like using your stuff as backgrounds and wallpapers but I wish they were bigger (image size wise) to work with!

I'll look into what resolution I can bring images up to, though, for obvious reasons; I'm never going to exceed "print resolution".

has lulu said anything about their stance? they still list the werewolf print book so they don't appear to have issues with that.
