I just cannot catch a break. First Lulu f**ks up, and now my work computer is on the fritz. I'm hoping I can, at the very least, access my files. If not, I may have lost some work, including progress on the next installment of Sinclaire Global - which was just 2 pages away from completion.
If I HAVE lost all that work, I'm going to start on a whole new comic. No way I can face having to redraw everything off the bat right now.

It's going to be some hours before I know more. I'm clumsily running through some potential solutions that I've been provided by people more computer savvy than I.

EDIT - checking my backup drive, I can see that I copied across the Sinclaire Global files a week or so ago. If I have lost progress, it'll only be 3 pages worth, which is a little less painful than losing the WHOLE thing, AND the script.

Shit dude, that sucks! I know its too late now, but if you need a decent backup solution, Duplicati is pretty decent free solution, a Synology NAS with file sync would be better, but costs a bit.

Good luck and godspeed sir.

external drives ftw

jollyjack

I backup to an external drive, but I do it manually every so often. I shouldn't have lost EVERYTHING.

Axti

Let's hope for the best that you can access everything.

Easy to be wise after the fact, but integrated cloud backup is a good way to ensure you always have Access to stuff. I have a working folder on my pc linked to OneDrive that's automatically kept backed up so I always have access to it even if my pc packs in.

solid state drive or conventional hard disk?

Why I continually invest in Dropbox, so when my computer shat the bed for similar reasons I wasn’t stressing out.

Depending on the nature of your problem, you may be able to save your work. If you have an extra computer, or someone that will let you plug your hard drive into theirs, as long as the data isn't corrupted, you should be able to access, recover, and back it up. I know this may not be terribly helpful now, but in the future, you can set up a secondary hard drive to periodically copy and save your main drive, to keep an up to date back up of anything you work on.

Best solution I’ve found is to hit it with a big hammer until the smoke comes out and then call tech support ... I use to be tech support 🤨🤓 ... and our gear had dedicated real time backup happening 24/7. 😛😏

TetsuKnife

...I wish I could do more than offer you good luck, man, but I hope you didn't lose much and or are able to recover it.

DahDee2KOA

I jeez... good luck!! I have been there more times than I care to admit and I am an IT Professional... so it sucks and i wish you all of the very best with this!

SuperCDR

Oh no. I wish you luck bro!

Having lost a bit of work in the past, I'm now a big proponent of cloud backup. I use google drive app to backup all my work files. Dropbox and Mega also have apps and are good choices too.

Savage Shark

Oh man, I hope you didn't lose all that work man. Maybe invest in an Ext HD for storing those files for safety. Hope it works out for the better. Hate for you too lose all that work :C

The Artificer

Ugh, I know how that feels. I once lost all the character models for a project i was working on. Six years of data gone.

SaraH con Hache

Oooow, shit. I recommend you to buy an IPad Pro. I know it’s so expensive but you never lost anything. Every archives are in the ICloud. It make a backup every day. Good luck with your computer. We’ll waiting for you and your great art.

David Rudisill

That's a relief. Good luck.
