the thing about the Huey and Annie situation, is that i'm not sure if Annie is reading into it as a "masculinity insecurity" thing or not -- but that's definitely not what it is. any partner in any gender role feeling like they're not giving their 50% is definitely valid in feeling guilty (maybe not at the expense of trying to force it, but still). like for example, if both partners have cars, but one of them does 100% of the driving, it would make sense for there to be some weird energy there and for it to not feel right, EVEN after talking about it. I can understand Huey in that he doesn't want to feel guilty anymore after ALWAYS being the one who needs to be saved, but the whole "I NEED to save YOU, Annie" thing... yeah idk about that. I get that he's probably just genuinely worried he's going to lose Annie like he lost Robin, but whenever he talks about it he seems to fumble his point. there's definitely some insecurity, but I think Annie gave him a hard time about it being a "boyfriend / girlfriend" thing, or at least didn't really take the conversational approach that I wanted to hear from her. it should be a human thing that applies to all sorts of dynamics, not just romantic ones. especially when the arguments taking place are pretty much life-or-death, and not "who gets to drive to costco today"

I don’t know. I get what you are saying, but I still totally read it as masculine insecurity. I think there are times in every relationship where one partner may be contributing more than the other, sometimes that causes issues and other times it doesn’t. But this particular need for being the protector just feels, to me, like it stems from masculine insecurity. Hopefully he can recognize it and they can work through it.
