I've been struggling to motivate myself to watch Gurren Lagann even though I love it, and episode 18 + the animayhem reprieve helped me realize why. It makes my brain work. Sometimes I just wanna watch golf balls blast through trains or maids blast each other away. But man 18... the scene where all the old guard are answering the phones? One banger quote about societies after another. People are more attached to their damaged property than they are concerned about an existential threat about to wipe out all human life. Our two strongboi twins smashing their phones into the desk, proving that the personal assets it takes to get you into power don't necessarily translate to wielding it. Just that one scene made me pause the episode 4 times to write out my thoughts.
