Hey Wiger, the Xanadu series is "technically" still going on over at Falcom though it's pretty unrecognizable compared to the old games. Tokyo Xanadu came out in 2015 and it's sequel Tokyo Xanadu Kyoto is rumored to be releasing next year! Xanadu and the like are spin offs of Dragon Slayer which also spun off into Falcom's other series Legend of Heroes which has its newest game releasing in English in January!

Chiaka J. Konaka, the credited writer for this show, also served as head writer for The Big O and Digimon: Tamers, both of which are drafting off a lot of what Lain is doing but adding Giant Badass Robots and Digimon to them. (He got a little annoyingly tech bro-y recently, but that does seem a logical endpoint.) Definitely recommend The Big O and Tamers. Both great shows.

It definitely seems that around GR: Giant Robo & Ghost Hound in 2007/08 people seemed reluctant to ever let him be the head writer on a show again. Which having seen those shows, correct choice.

There is an official Louvre manga. France is the second largest consumer of manga after Japan. Its Guardians of the Louvre by Jiro Taniguchi, who is known for his dreamlike artwork.

The creepy anatomy dolls coming to life at night isn’t just in Dandadan. It’s a common urban legend that goes back to at least the 1950s. It shows up in fiction enough that it has its own TvTropes page full of examples https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EerieAnatomyModel

Very cool that Lain’s fake parents took the time to make out on the couch before the job ended.

there was a nasa funded study about dolphin communication by Dr Lilly mentioned in the episode, but it was ultimately a failure because the dolphin became horny for the researcher and refused to cooperate. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/jun/08/the-dolphin-who-loved-me

Not just one official Louvre manga! There's also Rohan at the Louvre, starring JJBA self-insert character Rohan Kishibe, by Hirohiko Araki Mujirushi: The Sign of Dreams by Naoki Urasawa (Pluto) which features Iyami, the fake Frenchman from Fujio Akatsuka's Osomatsu-kun. Cats of the Louvre by Taiyō Matsumoto (Tekkon Kinkreet) which unsuprisingly is about cats who live in the Louvre. I think that's it for the Japanese comics in the collection, but there's lots of other Louvre themed comics that the Louvre sell.

the brown drink in the fridge in episode 8 is probably barley tea!

I haven’t found the time to watch along with this series but I’m really enjoying the talk throughs. Hope you guys cover Psychopass one day; you all seem pretty hype on cyberpunk and the panopticon variations in that show are similarly prescient to some of the thinkier ideas in Serial Experiments Lain.

I'm super late to this episode but Nick's comments about Toronto not smelling like piss really make me wonder how bad LA is. I live in downtown Toronto and it's not uncommon at all to smell a random whiff of piss when walking around here, happens to me at least a few times a week. Maybe he just had good luck the week he was here!
