TL,DR:

Longer answer-

I goofed on the fingers. Finger Truthers were right. I miscounted. Somehow I got into my head that he had regrown his ring fingers, and was looking forward to posting a "Signature Look of Superiority" meme when I pointed out where that happened. But unless I managed to Double-Miss, when I went back and checked, we were still at Thumb-Index-Middle. Ring and Pinky are gnawed down stubs. FOR NOW!

So when confronted with the disappointing truth, I had to make a quick decision. Ret-con something, or just use the correct numbers going forward. Not a hard choice. I'll be using the right numbers going forward. The incorrect chapters will be fixed when the book goes to publication, but I'm not going to dig through them just now to catch where I goofed. Too busy writing Vol. 3.

Speaking of.

I've been following the discussion in the comments, and wanted to explain a bit about why I ended the volume where I did. The answer, and it's not a satisfying answer, is "Mechanics."

I put out new chapters five days a week, so I think in blocks of five. Extending this, it means the book is a number of chapters long that end in a five or a zero. There is a STRONG push from every publisher I have spoken to (and I have spoken to a few) for books that come in around 100k-120k words. This is for a number of actually sensible reasons on their end, and I don't have a problem with it.

Some of you have already spotted where I am going with this.

My chapters are 2k words, minimum, and generally (there are exceptions) don't exceed 2.5k words. 55 chapters is roughly 110,000 words, theoretically. The actual current draft of Vol. 2 clocks in at just over 120k words. So I definately don't want to make the book longer. But the better stopping point would have been chapter 53, which was a Wednesday. Which would break the 'rule' of fives.

Is this the dumbest reason to end a book in a particular spot? I'm not talented enough to claim the very pinnacle. But it is, certainly, A dumb reason to end a book in a particular spot. So when it goes to publication, I won't end it on chap. 55. I will probably end it on chap. 53, or if the publisher says "It's more of a guideline than a rule," there is a good ending point a little into what is currently Vol. 3.

So, that's the reason. It's not a very satisfying one, but it is the truth. Vol. 3 starts off with a bang Monday. I'm really looking forward to sharing it with you.

This week flew past much, much too fast, but I was able to get in some good thinking and good reading. Even got a little videogaming in, which I find hard to make time for. Clare Obscur is worth the hype. I really don't know what could take the GOTY crown from it.

I'll let you all guess why I like the game so much.

And as always, thank you for reading. Your support is what let me turn my passion into a career.

I thought he had 4 whole fingers from the start then regrew middle fingers during lotus-snake bath and then one ring finger at the second bath in stomach of the bird.

If you wanted to go forward with just the pinkies missing, I feel like the wood room in the 6 turn cavern would be a logical place for the ring fingers to regrow.
