hello everyone, I'm working on improving stability, uncached full files will take a while to load and imports are a bit backlogged both due to bandwidth. Thank you.

I have 0 Patrons at that tier level.  It’s basically just additional admin at this point. OTOH, maybe someone will want it someday? I figured I would ask the crowd- Keep or trash the $3 tier?

What are the rewards for the $3 tier again?

Your first glimpse into the mysteries, but you are still trapped in the mundane world. Still, your support of the Great Undertaking is much appreciated! Read Two Chapters Ahead

Psychology says to keep the tier. People like having a choice. Also some people might start out with it and then switch.

SecretsOfTheVoid

Personally, $3 for 2 chapters is really close in price to $5 for 10 chapters. It's very much like how medium ice creams/french fries are close in price to their large variant. You just opt for the large because it's a little more money but you feel like you get more value. I would say to change the tier to $1 for 3 chapters as an incentive to pull someone into Patreon. Then when the next cliffhanger hits, they'll upgrade to the $5 tier.

The Lost Pages

Psychologically it is better. Even if no one is there. It makes people choose $5 quicker.

The positive of this tier is to make the next one look more like a bargain. Which is not a bad reason if you think about it.

I love how the comments section here is just "MARKETING TACTICS!"

Well, we are all Starbrite mages. We exist to create shareholder value in strict accordance with the commandments of the system astrologica.

You should keep it but adjust the chapters you have available. $3 for 2 chapters is dogshit and should be updated. A lot of the majorly successful patreons have a 'lowest available tier' that is also a bit of a throwaway tier. It exists to just try and show a comparison between the other tiers and make people not feel like the entire patreon selections are too high from a baseline. However your $3 is terrible and you know it. $1.50 per chapter or $.50 per chapter, which would someone choose? It's going to be the cheaper per chapter cost. It also shows a lack of consistent planning for price point across the selections of tiers. Each tier should have three things; a selection of rewards higher than the previous tier, an increasing number of chapters available compared to the previous tier, and a steady price point per chapter. The $3 tier isn't working for you because it is both a lowball tier and it doesn't have a good offering of rewards to begin with. It shouldn't be $3 for 2 chapters. It should be $3 for 6 chapters to keep the price per chapter in line with the other offerings. (which is .50 per chapter if you keep $5 for 10 chapters) You should also be working to increase your higher tier chapter offerings too. $10 should be showing 20 chapters ahead. However going higher than that can lead to issues, and is also just really fuckin difficult to have like $20 showing 40 friggin chapters. This is why you find a lot of the big name authors all use the $1, $5, and $10 tier structures, because it allows them to have a lowball tier that will just get people started, a middle point tier that they hope to get most their subscribers on, and an upper bracket tier where they hope that they'll get some people on to really make money. Its like any good corporate strategy; you have three solutions to the problem, the bare minimum offering that won't really solve the problem but starts someone off, the middle ground option that will both solve the problem and meet most desires, and then the best option around which is the payday option. I know you're working to expand your backlog, which is good, but you should take a minute to look through the top of the chart authors and try to get a handle on their patreons, the mistakes they've made, and how they're making money. PirateAba and CasualFarmer are outliers btw and shouldn't be used as reference points. It would also be worthwhile to check out The First Defier's forum post on how to run your fiction like the business it is. I have some issues with his post but he gets everything pretty right from what I've seen.

Honestly, best practice would be $0.75 per advanced chapter or $1.00 from a marketing perspective. Gives people more reason to get the better value.

I just joined at the $3 tier but was forced to upgrade because nothing was visible.
