This was my first Starkid show! My partner at the time introduced me to them. Now, I've gone to see Nerdy Prudes, Cinderella's Castle, AND The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals remount on opening night each time. Love that you're watching this!!!

So you have actually seen Brian Holden (the one mosquito you couldn't recognize) - he was Smelly Balls! And he's married to Meredith (Mega-Girl and Jemilla)! I love this musical a lot and I think it's my mom's favourite because Denise is her favourite Starkid. it was their first one they did out of their college theatre. Actually, Joey was still in college I believe at the time so he had to bus to the shows and rehearsals between classes. Denise (February) said in a concert a few years ago that her mom calls this a "show only for dreamers" and I love that so much. I really hope you enjoy this because it's just really fun and their first time really doing this on their own.

Starship!!!! Glad you seem to be enjoying it so far. "Objectively" I wouldn't say this is the best Starkid show, but it is my favorite. Not as polished as the newer stuff, but it's so much fun I'm really glad you're doing this before Cinderella's Castle. The puppetry here is great, but Cinderella's Castle is so much better ~15 years later. I feel like it's be harder to appreciate the simplicity of them once seeing what they can do with a larger budget and some more experience

So, as you know Darren Criss was involved with Starkid before he was in Glee. This show lays at the intersection between those points. He actually wrote all the music for this show while filming for Glee. This took up a lot of his time and he wasn't able to write as many songs as planned and didn't finish the ones he did write until pretty last minute.

YES im a rabid starship defender!! a lot of people describe this show as sci-fi little mermaid, which adds to its charm for me. i also see a lot of trans starkid fans love this one because bug's story is pretty easy to read through a trans lens ^^ one of my favorite quotes is from denise donavan (the actress playing february) who in a live show talked about how her mom calls it "a show only for dreamers" and i think thats honestly the perfect descriptor for it :)

Yessssss!!!! Starship my beloved Ive seen the show and loved it and then watched Star Trek and loved it even more. Starkid's puppetry is always so good and it really shines in this musical. I think you will really love this once we get further into the story, there are so many precious characters and I love them so much.

krayonder (the one you said reminded you of ethan) is joe moses, who played snape in avpm. and idk if you’ve seen the later very potter shows or just avpm but the mosquito brother you didn’t recognise is brian holden who played lupin in a very potter sequel and hagrid in a very potter senior year (and also plays junior in this). WAIT HE WAS ALSO SMELLY BALLS i forgot you’ve seen firebringer for a moment

I love this musical so much, for so many different reasons. Also, Mortius being unable to pin down Taz and Up's dynamic is very funny to me as someone who read some honestly really well-written Tup fanfic back in the day lmao (any way you interpret their relationship, they would die for each other and I love that)

Going from this to NPMD is actually great because you really get to see how much Joey has improved as a singer, and starship is already a very good performance

It's been ages since I've watched Starship...I think it was the second production I saw from them. There are a couple of songs and scenes that still live rent free in my head, so I think you'll enjoy the rest. If I remember correctly, it only gets better - they really kick it up a notch~

Starship is one of my absolute favorite Starkid shows of all time, even though it's not as polished as their later stuff. I would say the best description is less Star Trek and more The Little Mermaid meets Starship Troopers/Aliens.

This is my personal favorite Starkid musical. Also, you should check out Nightmare Time before moving on to NPMD. Even if you do so in your own time, it makes the show better if you catch the references.
