So a widowed Cougar lawyer (yes I'm aware she's a snow leopard, walk with me on this one) with grown children is suddenly deciding that she wants to be a PMC legal/contract rep and her first pick is the outta left field mercs that got a rep by blowing up a pirate station in the space boonies? She's either a plant, running from trouble, or spy.

I almost want the lawyer to recognize Eddie, maybe from that corporate espionage case from 15 years ago (how old is Eddie?) either the IT guy or the witness with gambling debts. Just the thought of them being acquainted from opposite sides of a courtroom would be hilarious. I also wonder if maybe she’s looking for Stella, not as in a bounty hunter kind of way, but “your parents sent me” kind of thing. I do wonder who Stella’s parents are, her email made it feel like there’s some nobility or political clout involved

My guess is that she maybe wants revenge for her dead husband. We know he died 25 years ago and maybe the killers are under some kind of corporate protection that normal mercenary's can't handle. Now here comes are new group of dangerous mercenary's that she can maybe manipulate to go after the killer's before they get contracted with a corporation and are prevented to do so. But this is a insane theory that is almost certainly untrue but I wanted to share.
