UPDATE ON PATREON! (Patreon)
Content
After a bunch of back and forth, we finally have some clarity on what exactly is going on and can report it to you.
One year from now, on November 1, 2025, Patreon will forcibly convert our existing patrons’ per-video memberships to monthly memberships. And for iOS app users, they are adding an additional 30% fee! In the meantime, starting in a few weeks, Patreon won’t even allow NEW patrons to sign up—unless we convert all of our existing patrons to the new model.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU: If you are already a patron, nothing will change for now. You will still be able to keep whatever per episode contribution you’ve selected. At some point, though, Patreon will make us do a conversion to monthly. And we’ll let patrons know about it before it happens.
But a couple months from now, we’re going to stop promoting Patreon anyway. Because rather than charging a monthly subscription fee on Patreon, have them take a cut, and be subjected to their censorship, we decided to create our own subscription website where we control everything.
Matt, Shelley, and I have decided that this is the best way to ensure we can continue the show, make free content for YouTube, and create additional premium content for anyone who subscribes to our new website. Plus it’ll have cool features that Patreon doesn’t.
Once we launch that website, we’ll let you know. And we’ll ask you to subscribe to that website instead of Patreon.
If you’ve contributed to us through Patreon over the years, thank you so much for your ongoing support. You are what has made China Uncensored possible. We hope you can keep your Patreon subscription until the new website is launched.
