Chris, I don't believe there has ever been a signing of a formal end to the long long long Chinese Civil war. Which has been going on since the early 1800s. Consider if: Taiwan and CCP signed a formal end to the Chinese Civil war. Technically, the Civil War would be over. And, the entire Chinese People's formally reuinited. Thus, Taiwan and China would not be at war, and formally reunited. Achieving, CCP's goals of reuniting all Chinese peoples. Without firing a shot: the CCP war with Taiwan would be over. Of course, how the two Taiwan and Mainland Chinese peoples would get along; governments, military, etc., would have to be agreed upon. Or, at least debated in a much more Brotherly way. At least under a much less hostile environment. Both sides could declare victory. Then, hopefully strive for a more united Chinese People in the future. This is very idealistic. Yet, it could be considered as a much better way for Taiwan and CCP to get along with each other.

I think that's similar to what the CCP proposes with the One Country, Two Systems model. But after what happened in Hong Kong, I doubt anyone would take it.
