By deposing Maduro, and then invading Iran - isn't the US kinda responsible for tickling the tail of the dragon? In other words, Taiwan would likely be safe, ad infinitum, as it has been for the past 70 years, had not all these unsanctioned US invasions of sovereign countries and depositions of leaders occurred? Wouldn't the looming threat of arming Taiwan with nukes finally set China off? Instead, shouldn't we do our utmost to deescalate global tensions, immediately? It's 58 seconds to midnight (pre Iran invasion)

Great question. Taiwan is critical to the CCP’s identity and legitimacy. If the 100 year anniversary of the PRC comes and China hasn’t been “reunified” that would be a disaster for the party image. So unless the US can provide extreme deterrence, it will happen. China is now without a major source of oil, as well as regional proxies that could distract the US. The CCP has agency. It doesn’t just respond to whatever the US does. So in general I think this is a positive development. Though I can’t see the future.
