John Armbruster

Oooooh, I've been waiting for this one!

Dustin Denner

It cost about $125,000 to construct Robby in 1956 ($1.1 Million in today's money). He also appeared in at least 44 various movies and T.V. shows/commercials. Over the years, he changed hands several times and last sold at auction for $5,375,000 in 2017.

Love this movie! Except for the acting. And the silly "love" story. And the alcoholic cook guy. Everything else is awesome! I wish they would take the bones of this story and remake it. With some quality writers, actors and special effects.

Dustin Denner

No thanks. It's fine the way it is. We don't need anymore hacks destroying good movies with remakes.

Every time there's an upload and it isn't The Mummy Returns ... I cry a little :/

Dorsalfinsky

I remember the special effects being groundbreaking but don’t remember them being so cool looking. And about five minutes in when the cook asks whether Robbie is male or female…get that guy some shore leave pronto.

ConsciousChronicle143

I'm only kidding. No rush at all. It just happens to be one of my all time favorite childhood movies and I got way too excited when I saw it on the weekly lineup. No apologies necessary at all.

Ludwvin Martinez

One of the inspirations for this movie was Shakespeare's play The Tempest about a sorcerer and his daughter taking refuge in an island after a storm shipwrecked them. When a new ship arrives, the wizard conjures storms to keep them away.

Ludwvin Martinez

The daughter and love story come from Shakespeare's play The Tempest that this movie took inspiration from.

Stephen Malloy

I can easily see the basic premise here as an episode of the original Star Trek.

Geoff S.

I think when he says bosun it's not the guy's name but a rank. Meaning head crewman on deck I believe. I love the Palm Springs modernism of the doctor's house in this.

Harvey Lee

I know they should leave well enough alone , it is a great movie as it is and the granddaddy of SCI FI films , i've been so looking forward to this .

Robert Cooper

I am shocked no one else has noted that largely this is a scifi retelling of The Tempest by Shakespeare. That was kind of SciFi's go to move until Golden Age people like Asimov, Dick, and Bradbury. Clarke and Kubrick made scifi a real thing with 2001, but this was the apex of B Movie sci-fi.
