Henry Blake was making fishing lures in a process known as fly tying. Basically you take a bare fishhook and tie various feathers onto it to resemble whatever it is that the fish would eat.

Robert Altman was incomparably great. I’d say the essentials (& I think you’d love all) are: Nashville, The Long Goodbye, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, and his last masterpiece, The Player… one of the best hollywood backstage dramas ever. It also starts with my favorite of all show-offy long takes.
