Jen, Jen, Jen...the passenger was not loading the shotgun with really big bullets, but rather shotgun shells that most often contain a variable number of round metal pellets that are fired from the shotgun. The empty red shotshell is then ejected by pumping the mechanism to load the next filled shell. The shooter can cause lots of damage without having to be precise, like a sniper.
