Another Tim Burton for Christmas season and this one was pure snowy, magical fantasy! Again such a unique story! I thought Johnny Depp was absolutely fascinating as Edward. And Low-Key MVP to Peg, the sweetest lady. What other Johnny Depp or Tim Burton should we check out?

Definitely Tim Burton's most personal film. Edward is how Burton sees himself and the bland suburbs & strip malls how he sees the world. You can picture Burton in high school watching on as his crushes date asshole jock bullies while he feels isolated & incomplete but finding expression in creative outlets

The scene where Edward is carving the angel, and Kim is slowly dancing in the "snow" is pure magic to me - the emotional heart of the film: he can't touch her, he knows he doesn't fit in her world, but with what he CAN do he can make HER world more wonderful, and she knows it's from his heart. (Vincent Price's last performance. Very melancholy movie for me in that regard, though he was *flawless* as the inventor.) Adjacent to this film but still connected - at the Seattle-area scifi convention NorWesCon in 1994, the winner of the costume contest was a guy in full Edward garb, with working scissors on his hand. The whole audience gasped and then cheered - it looked like Depp had stepped out of the screen. Insanely good, and it showed that the movie appealed to more than the "typical Burton fan" (people like me :)

Goddess of Empathy

The ending to this always makes me sad too, like, she NEVER went back up there? He was so close!
