I forgot how neat and fun the first round of Marvel movies were, watching this 14- 15 year old movie felt neat and makes me want to watch it.

Another lovely reaction! Kenneth Branagh and I are the same age, and I can just tell, from this film, that the Thor comics impacted him in more-or-less the same way they impacted me. The film zeroes in on Thor's humbling (an idea first broached in 1968), which I think is one of the most compelling arcs in Thor's story. (In the comics, his humbling took a decade. Odin took Thor's memory too, and he lived on Earth as Donald Blake, a surgeon with a bad leg, before he found the hammer again on a vacation in Norway.) I think casting Chris Hemsworth in this role was a stroke of genius, because you need someone who can handle the heroics, the obnoxious ego, the pathos, *and* the comedy. In Norse mythology, Sif (the lady warrior) is actually the wife of Thor (and she is famous for her long, golden hair, which Loki cuts off as a prank). I think there are hints in this film that Sif wishes Thor were not in love with Jane, but she is such a good friend to him that she doesn't try to interfere with the romance. The three warriors -- Fandrell, Vostagg, and Hogun -- are also in the comics. But in the comics, they are often accompanied by Baldur (in Norse mythology, the god of plants and growing things), who is Thor's best friend.
