Wow, this one really hit me hard. I don't remember the last time I cried so much in a movie.

Top notch acting all around and a truly tragic, heartbreaking story. I'm very glad I saw it, but definitely hard to watch.

I know I wasn't saying much at some points, I was just sobbing. And by the end I was just absolutely emotionally exhausted.

I'm still thinking about it, days later, it really left a lasting impact. Obviously a very touching story and one that stays with you.

Guest appearance by my best pal Boston, comfort dog extraordinaire :)

Thank you for watching & bearing with my tears!

So tonights pick was obviously The Green Mile. What can one say about this film? I don't often say this about films. The film student in me always wants to dissect. Whether it's just to understand what and why it's worked. Or the opposite if that be the case. But this one is perfect. I can't let my thoughts free to the air. Take pen to paper or fingers to keyboard. The vivid emotions cloud and the tears would just make everything too wet. 😭 Having never read the book, I'm sure there are omissions and artistic changes. But what you don't know doesn't really matter a hella beans in these cases I'd say. You perhaps might not fully appreciate you are watching a Stephen King story until Del's execution. When that pure graphic horror hits you like a freight train. The biblical symbolism is obviously unmissable. Both direct and indirect. John being precieved as a miracle and an instrument of miracles. The talk of the evils of the world. Him been seen as responsible for and eventually dying for a sin he didn't commit. I can't say for sure, which, what or how things were intended. But my favourite is the simple but clever shot of John when he is watching the film. The shot is a closeup on his face as he marvels in what he's seeing. The light from the projector shines from behind him which creates an angelic flicking glow around his head. I love a good movie cry and this film obviously never fails.

Such a beautiful film. I definitely think it was written purposefully with Biblical symbolism. The guards acting as Apostles who can't do anything to change John's fate, all they can do is walk beside him and stand with him in his final moments. Such a deeply sad and moving film.
