Wait but it’s Wednesday? Woah

snooza

Let's goooooo Personally Aquemini is my favourite OutKast album, but it did take some time to fully click (and I will admit that it does have some misses, probably more than all of their other albums). The highs are so damn high tho. A lot of people favour Stankonia on 1st listen tbh. Stankonia is also when they REALLY broke through to the general public and became household names (which then reached astronomical highs when they released Speakerboxxx/The Love Below). I'm sure Erykah Badu is in your list already, but definitely don't sleep on her. She was part of the Soulquarians super group with legends like J Dilla, The Roots, Mos Def, Q-Tip, etc... She was also dating Andre around this time (they have a kid together). My fave album of hers is Mamas Gun.

Bob has blessed us today. I gotta say, Stankonia is my favourite Outkast album, I gotta say their best. Not sure how popular that opinion is. I don't listen to Aquemini much but I'm curious to know what you think about it

Vervanta

i say that and i still dont really think mamacita, yall scared, nathaniel, and liberation are great. but overall its a great album. and return of the g, rosa parks, aquemini, and daos pt 1 and 2 are all absolute masterpieces

Psykopomp

echo and toms on liberation remind me of dark side of the moon. time, specifically. interested to hear your thoughts after you've lived with this album a bit.

Chance

Mamacita is not good and has no business being on this album. I feel like the vast majority of people are in agreement on that. But I’d be a little surprised if the rest of the stuff you were iffy on doesn’t grow on you with more listens. Also, you’re going to love UGK’s Ridin’ Dirty, which was referenced in Nathaniel. When you describe the southern production that you love so much, it’s like you are describing the very sound that Pimp C pioneered.

Brandon Williams

I’m not the biggest OutKast fan. They definitely have great songs in their catalog, but mediocre albums in my opinion. I would love to see you check out Erykah Badu. Her first 2 albums ‘Baduizm’ and ‘Mamas Gun’ are phenomenal!

Will H

Ayy...my favorite Outkast album! I'm about 20 mins in, just thought I'd point out the favorite group that Andre was referring to in "Rosa Parks" was A Tribe Called Quest...they were on the verge of breaking up at the time (mainly due to infighting between Q-Tip and Phife) and eventually broke up weeks before their album "The Love Movement" came out (it was released on the same day as Aquemini).

Cullen Hendricks

SouthernPlayalistic is my personal fav OutKast album but I’m from the South and that is prob the most similar to the 90’s stuff I listen to the most like Three Six Mafia,Project Pat,UGK,& MC Mack etc

Evilknightz

Stankonia is the one, imo. When I listen to ATLiens and Aquemini, I hear really great rapping, but that doesn't do it for me on its own.

Wasp Genocide

When Bob reacted to ATLiens, people kept saying "Aquemini is the one!" and now that he's feeling so-so on Aquemini, they say "Stankonia is the one!" I think some of you may just need to come to terms with the fact that your favorite reactor isn't as heavily into Kast as you'd hoped. I totally agree with Bob's take on Aquemini, by the way. This album is bloated and very, very uneven. Half of the tracks are skippable, the other half are excellent. Oh, and just to settle the debate once and for all: ATLiens is the one. ;)

neff118

YES

Chance

Same. I’d say that Aquemini has the highest highs of any album in their discography, but I think Southernplayalistic is their most consistent, cohesive album. I’m guessing you’re also a Big KRIT fan based off this comment.

Brandon Williams

Synthesizer is way ahead of its time. Very relevant today

Mike Muzzi

the only track that could even be remotely argued as filler or bloating content is Mamacita the rest of this album is pure perfection, youre tripping

Josh

Great Reaction Bob, i agree on some of the 'filler' too. Even though there are tracks with redeemable qualities, those few tracks really serve no purpose for me personally, and all I can say is that I skip them when I listen to the album.

SuperFuego

Time for STANKONIA

Joshua Brice

Man, what a fun watch! Even though I didn't care for the whole album, I enjoyed watching the whole video. I think I'm in a similar place with just not liking some of the tracks but thinking others are amazing. I really love your in-depth look at lyrics, Bob.
