hello everyone, I'm working on improving stability, uncached full files will take a while to load and imports are a bit backlogged both due to bandwidth. Thank you.

I was out of town for the weekend, skiing in Tahoe and freezing my ass off with family, so I wasn't able to get to the comments for the reaction. I've been reading them this morning. There are a lot of mixed opinions, rightfully so. Patreon is being somewhat buggy this morning, not letting me see everything, so I'm making a general reply here for everyone rather than replying comment by comment.

I'm going talk about this Wednesday for additional thoughts, but I want everyone here to know that I feel my reaction was FAR out of line simply because I did not approach the album from a position of open-mindedness. That has always been the core of this channel, what has made it successful (imo), and what must happen in the future if I have any hope of it becoming bigger (which I do).

This community has been amazing in always allowing me to have my opinion. I've NEVER been told I must like an album. Ever. Disappointed I didn't enjoy it? Sure. Helping me to understand things I didn't get? Of course. But there's never been a requirement to like something because people know I'm doing my best to enjoy it for what it is.

But all of that goes out the window if I lock myself into a position of expectation and then refuse to budge when the album turns out to be something different. That isn't being open minded. That's being head-up-ass. And it's the kind of thing that will kill the channel if I don't recognize it going forward. Friday was basically a "Boomer Bob" moment, something I'm coining here for the sake of more Bob lore. Please feel free to post memes about it in Discord :)

Again, lots more on this Wednesday for Additional Thoughts, but I wanted to touch base with all of you first so everyone knows my thoughts have been churning on this all weekend. I continue to listen to the album. I've been approaching it with a totally different point of view (that of it being something to chill/vibe to) and I'm enjoying it more.

We'll see ya Wednesday. Thanks for the love/patience/support etc. Y'all are amazing ❤

To be fair I remember feeling similar to Bob coming off of NWTS. With IYRITL the verses seemed to drop in quality and were super simple and almost schemeless. I did however enjoy the minimal production. What’s crazy is the influence this project had on hip hop. I feel like this birthed so much minimalistic trap. Which is still a prominent style to this day. I feel Bob makes valid points though, Drake isn’t super lyrical on this project even if he is rapping majority of it, the bars and schemes are very very simple. Hold your ground Bob don’t let the mob sway you!!!!

Yeah you were definitely biased going in, but it’s hard to be unbiased. Maybe it’s better to know less about the artist and the album before going in, but that’s going to be hard, because you like learning about the culture etc.

First time i really didn't enjoy a reaction of yours, not because of the music, but because of the way you approached it! I don't like Drake that much, but please don't just shrug off the music like that again! Nobody is perfect so of course we forgive you Shawn, we live and we learn!

FuzzyDunlop

Nah. So what you're saying is, you'll go into the next Drake album open minded? At this point it's willfull ignorance that people want you to have.

Wasp Genocide

This is kinda weak tbh. Your reaction was fine, and now it looks like you're letting the Drake fans get to you.

Nwts is so different and actually full of flow and all the stuff this album lacked, so if you’re going into it more open you will enjoy it a lot more

It'll make more sense tomorrow night (hopefully) during additional thoughts. I feel like there are people from both camps (Drake Haters and stans) that are missing some of the nuance of what happened Friday

People talking about it's not fair cuz Drake dumbed it down on this album, so the lyrics shouldn't be judged so harshly. That's because Drake didn't write this album, Quentin Miller and others did. Feel free to search youtube for the reference tracks. How can we hold Drake to any standard of lyricism or esteem when he calls himself the greatest and uses ghostwriters. Shout out Hush, Quentin Miller, Partynextdoor, The Weeknd, Majid Jordan, and the rest of the writers Drake has used. In my mind, he's forever disqualified from being taken seriously as an MC.
