Super

i got my black tar heroine ready for this reaction

Deen Syed

Already listened to the MP3 but gonna watch it so I can be enraged to a higher degree this time

RandomPig

ive personally always disliked this album i never understood any appeal but im ready to watch u and re-listen to it and see if my opinion has changed with time!

Ollie Thomas

Chance was on Ultralight beam Bob, not sure if you would've heard anything else hes featured on

Bryan Torres

He was on The Life of Pablo and Because The Internet.

Captain

i remember when this came out, and i vaguely remember Chance releasing it actually as his debut album at the time and briefly after saying it was a mixtape. I was pretty early on Chance because i was a huge Gambino fan and Gambino gave him a lot of exposure. With all that said, I did not like this album when i first heard it and it took the second or third listen to get over his voice and his adlibs and appreciate what he does musically. I think the same will happen to Bob

pussvulture

acid rain the only standout song

Mr. Bigweld

Yea this was One of the albums that got me more into hip hop 10 yrs ago

Bobby porter

About to watch, but just wanna see how many people want Cilvia Demo to be on the next marble race!

Michael Balady

Love this video and chance.

VeganMilk

On the seriousness vs. silliness. It’s not that crazy of a concept when you think about it. I think you hit the nail on the head on Acid Rain. It’s about using that kinda hectic silliness to cope with all the shit he’s going through. A song like Paranoia being on the same album as a song like Juice makes much more sense when you put it in that context. Acid Rain and Paranoia are just him temporarily breaking the veil. People are complex, and emotions aren’t black and white; It makes sense that artists would try to express each and every side of themselves in their music. I think Acid Rap is a good example of what was going on during the mixtape era. A lot of projects from that time (late 2000s/early 2010s) had this similar theme of hectic ambiguity, or like disorder. Like you would hear a really fun upbeat song and then a sad introspective song right after it, or vice versa, and you’re thinking wtf just happened. I think a lot of that comes down to what you said about Acid Rain.

james moore

This one annoying ass album to me im sorry 😂😂 he perfected his style on the coloring book album though

Demo

It's supposed to make you feel that way. Think of the title of the album, Acid Rap. I'm so happy you did this one. This is one of the first albums that taught me that rap didn't have to be just one sound or one concept. You can make a crazy wacky album and still have substance. after this album came out, I delve so deep into the Chicago sound. I hope you react to "Coloring Book" one day.

Jared

Same. I'm about to listen w Bob to see if I hear anything intriguing.

Demo

And it's funny cause I Love the adlib haha IGH!

yeah

oh. my. god... nana

The Guy

chance is my favorite artist but nana is one of my least favorite songs ever so do t force yourself to try and like it

Julian

Acid Rain is probably a top 10 fav track of the 2010s for me, all genres. God I fucking love that song

Remy DeSi

Firstly, I hope mommom feels better! Secondly I know you’re probably going to be really busy this weekend but if you get a chance I really recommend checking out innanetape by vicmensa who was like chances partner in crime at this time. It’s kind of like acid rap but a little more refined in some senses because it came out a little later. They’re similar tonality wise but I think you would find Vic a little less annoying. Also has a killer thundercat contribution on the song “run”

John

Couple things 1. The adlib is a common complaint for people that don't like the album. 2. His next and last good album to date is called coloring book and that adlib is almost non existent except in a place where he does it as a callback. Coloring book is viewed as what set Kanye on the TLOP path. Chance had a lot of fingerprints on that album and Kanye kinda buried all his work on it and redid it all. This created a small rift for a while 3 Coloring book is way more mature and has more of a theme. He got clean after acid rap

Julian

tbh chance to me is kinda infuriating at times with his gimmicky flow and vocal delivery. really do not like this album overall. but just ONCE in a while, he will come with an absolutely killer verse that is raw, introspective, deep, and unique. so it's hard to fully hate on the guy cause i know he's got it, but damn is it rare. ultralight beam is a perfect example. and it's funny but idk if you've heard of the big day, chance's debut album (the rest were mixtapes) but it's one of the worst received projects in the history of rap music. like the opposite of universal acclaim.

Ugo Nwigwe

great record, like a lot of other ppl this one of the first rap albums i heard, and chain smoker was probably my first ever favorite rap song

Cozy Terry

seconding vince mensa innanet

Whyyeezus

Ah man peak chance, this shit means something to me man. Sad brother got off drugs and found a wife, which in turn ruined his ability to make good music.

Aaron Mendones

You don’t really have to do the. NEW young thug album . It was ass

Cozy Terry

this was such a different album it was so refreshing. chicago at 2012-2014 had this very experimental vibe along side the drill rap. alex wiley, vic mensa, saba, hurt everybody just great lyrics and these very experimental production and using the voice as an instrument. i understand why u wouldnt like it because youve been listening to a bunch of hip hop and different styles recently. but at the time hearing this just completely different and trying a bunch of different things it was great thanks for the reaction even though you werent a fan love you still going thru it

Cozy Terry

its viby you gotta dance with it otherwise its not as fun. feel like hes using the ahh adlib as a perc in the beat thats why he keeps doing it

Miguel Ojeda

Great reaction. Never been a fan of chance so this resonates with me. If you think chance was young when he made this can’t wait for you to find out how young Joey badass was when he made his mixtape 1999. Patiently waiting for that one.

Brendan wise

Fun fact acid rain is in Obamas playlist

g prada

couldn’t have said it better myself. hope he sees this.

Henry

I used to hate chances sound and adlibs but i grew to enjoy it. its silly but its just different and he does have good writing layered in his tracks. In response to paranoia, consider how easily you get annoyed and angry in the summertime when its hot out. how we all get. apply that to neighborhoods that already have issues with violence. everything is heightened

Henry

another note about this tape, it is a mixtape. a lot of the music is sampled and recycled from older hip hop. pusha man from ice t and everybodys something from slum village to name a couple. also i think the fact that he reached out to so many other chicago artists that didn't have a huge following at the time makes the features that much more special

Brandon Moore

Coloring Book is absolutely a must listen after this.

🌬🌅

Although I'm not the biggest fan of this album as a whole, Acid Rain is such a phenomenal song, it just sits with me so well.

Bangerz Productions

Bob-This is fucking great Chance “AAAHHH” 😂😂😂😂😂

Bangerz Productions

He has to React to Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment- Surf

Bangerz Productions

I love this mixtape but I don’t like Nana, Everybody’s Something and Acid Rain

Jack-Harris Bruce

Since you really enjoy serious Chance, you MUST listen to coloring book

CRASH

IGH!!!

CRASH

His next album is a lot more mature. I think he changes enough for it to work for you

Lane McDonald

Some of the lyrics on this album, wtf Chance?! 😂🙃

swanronson

Cilvia Demo Isaiah Rashad is another really good late-teen/early-twenties, coming of age album! Much more aggressive and hazy, and doesn't come packed with irritating ad-libs :)

Travis Hobbs

Even though you didn't love this album, I still believe that his next album, Coloring Book, would be a great reaction and much more up your alley. Its sound is closer to many of the songs you enjoyed on this album and is much more mature.

Cracc

This is prob def not your first introduction to action bronson but he is top tier rapper. If it is, give him a chance hahah

La’Que Newby

About halfway through, and I can definitely understand the points you’re making on this project. I personally like it, but I can see why most people wouldn’t. One thing to note is that Chance has said on multiple occasions that Lil Wayne is his favorite rapper, and I think you can clearly hear the influence on this project. I remember playing this when it first came out and even my dad had to ask me if it was Wayne. I know you’ve only done the first Carter so far, but even with that project, the way Wayne raps clearly influenced Chance- the vocal inflections, the somewhat silliness mixed with real topics, and the free flowing nature of it. I don’t know if Chance freestyles like Wayne does, but the way his verses are pretty sporadic makes it come off as like fun freestyles he did with his friends. I agree with an earlier comment that Coloring Book is a pretty much 180 from this. Some of the things you find annoying on this project are not nearly as existent on Coloring Book.

Jeff

the social experiment is a great follow up to this with chance
