This is posting early due to my taking vacation yesterday to record because I'm fully tied up for the holiday weekend. There's lots of early buzz around the new Pink Tape album. If that buzz remains high, I can do a reaction to that album next week 👍

So glad you did this Bob! It's one of my favorite albums of all time, and I do think that Cube, once you get beyond some of the antiquated takes, is such an important voice in hip hop. Him and Public Enemy basically started the whole wave of socially conscious gangster rap. Tracks like Tales From The Dark Side are still poingant today, and I love how Cube uses a lot of storytelling to show us how fucked up his neighorhood can be on tracks like Once Upon A Time. He gets even better on the subsequent EP Kill At Will and Death Certificate, his magnum opus. Less woman bashing and more political statements and storytelling like on Today Was A Good Day. And just a side note: This album is amazing and everyone talks about Uzi Vert in the comments. Can people at least save it for the Discord channel?

The other version is the album and an EP (Kill at will EP) which he released very soon after (believe the same year) and when it all converted to CD I think the only version you could get was both together to get the most value together

Yeah. Amerikkkas Most Wanted and the Kill At Will EP contained in the other version is basically the official version of the album now. It's a shame Bob didn't do it, it has some of the best tracks like Dead Homiez and The Product. Oh well. For another time. :)

I think you’d really like a lot of what’s going on in Pink Tape, but it easily could have been a 14 song album instead of 26, there’s a run of about 8 songs that get a little boring and kinda take you out of the experience, then you jump right back in towards the second half

You should do pink tape next week, its amazing and super innovative, even if people might find flaws (like the early reaction to WLR it was AAAALLL everyone hating). Yeah its a new level for Uzi but thats okay to start with this album for Uzi because it still is just as exciting plus you started your Carti journey with WLR

Great reaction Bob. The content of this album is part serious and part tongue in cheek. The “misogyny” is especially tongue in cheek. It’s meant to be humorous, and mock the dysfunctional relationships, and the worst of the worst, in the hood/ghetto. He is in no way a misogynist. Cube is actually a family man that has been married for over 30 years, and his son actually played him in the Straight Outta Compton movie.

Man you really nailed the "it was a good day" song interpretation like in those days it was really hard for African Americans but it was in the transition time so a day like that was so good it deserved a song and every other song talking about gang violance police brutality and everything in between this song really stud out

Nah, Pink Tape is the best album for him to start with, especially since he mostly likes Rock. I feel like he’d be a bit bored if he started somewhere else, like how him starting Carti with WLR was probably better than something like Self Titled

a Pink Tape reaction would be really fun. I loved the album and even if you end up not loving it I think you will thoroughly enjoy yourself cause there are so many different sounds and theres really no rap album that has experimented in this way before
