The Weeknd trilogy will forever be timeless. These laid the groundwork for not only R&B but a lot the music scene as a whole. It's simply intoxicating. When I first heard them it was like nothing I had heard before, it was almost addictive. I used to live in a mostly Amish town. So during the evenings it would be so quiet and there was no street lights, so it would be pitch dark. I spent countless nights on the porch doing shrooms or smoking and would get lost in my headphones playing the Trilogy. The soundscape and his vocal ability took my mind places its rarely ever been. It really shifted what I look for in music. The darkness mixed with the lushness and beauty of it was such a perfect duality, that I still seek in music today. I can't wait to check this reaction out after work this evening. I hope Bob or anyone who sees this has a wonderful and positive day/weekend!

The Weeknd is heavily inspired by horror films Bob. The birds tracks are named after Alfred Hitchcock and the title track on kissland was a snippet before the album came out and it was tilted John Carpenter. His music videos also show the horror film inspirations.

With whether The Weeknd cares for the girl or not in the zone music vid, I think your wife nailed it when she said it was more of The Weeknd not being able to understand his emotions towards Valerie due to the drugs rather than him caring for her/missing her. It’s backed up by what he says on the chorus too ‘I can’t feel a damn thing, but imma touch you right’. This is true for the whole of Thursday until the bonus Valerie track when Abel pretty much confirms that he did care for the girl but he subconsciously didn’t want to come in terms with it because of the weight that comes with it. He just wants to have sex just to have sex so falling in love with someone like valerie stops him from finding comfort in doing that. It’s a beautiful irony to the fact that in the birds 1&2, Abel tells her she shouldn’t fall in love with him because she will end up heartbroken (which was true) but it showed that he was also projecting by saying that.

Surprised you did Thursday as it’s probably the weakest album in the weeknds discography. And I don’t even think that’s a controversial opinion. Not to say that this is bad it’s just every other project is better
