I know people are upset about the differences from the book. But they need to remember that the books are written from unreliable sources who were not present at most of these events. Unlike G.O.T which is written from each characters P.O.V. Also, get the fuck over it lol

Some book purists are complaining a lot about this episode. Personally I don't mind the relatively minor changes - the same general events happen (and its not like the source material is especially detailed, its not the same style as ASOIAF). And yeah, it was tough. I know generally what happens, but I purposely stopped reading Fire and Blood once I got to the Dance of Dragons as not to spoil myself too much.

I'm pretty sure Daemon told them to do this. When the rat catcher asks him "what do we do if we don't find Aemond?" they just show Daemon smirking and the scene ends.

Just an FYI, now that it's not a spoiler... in the book, Aemond was never the target. There were 3 kids Helaena had. Two boys & a girl. The target was always one of her children. She chose the baby, trying to spare the heir. The heir was killed instead. It was always gonna be that way. Don't know why the show added the "kill Aemond" in when that was never the case in the book.

U guys forget that Lukes dragon Arrax was also Syrax's son, so she's grieving her child as well as feeling Rhaenyra's grief & pain too. Also Rhaenyra had 6 children by end of S1. 3 of them being Daemon's kids. She lost baby Visenya due to the stress the green caused her and then the greens killed Luke. Rhaenyra still has 4 sons.

Because the book isn't the truth as was written by people who wasn't there. Also, it makes sense as by killing off Aegons line makes his and Rhaenyras children closer to the throne

Theres a theory that Helaena's children aren't Aegons and are actually Aemonds. Back in S1, at Laena's funeral, Aegon was talking about how he didnt want to marry his sister, to which Aemond replied "If only Mother had betrothed us, I would perform my duty and keep our Valyrian blood pure." We won't know if this is true and I doubt it but if it was then the 'son for a son' was technically justified.

I am a book person who doesn't mind the book changes, for where the series is going and already the changes they made, it makes perfect sense and is written pretty well, people forget that the book is just a series of events without any real insight to what the characters are thinking & feeling, with what the series has and has to create, it did it really well. My poor poor Helaena doomed by her family and traumatized twice in one episode.

I think Daemon’s smile to Rat when he asked what do they do if Aemon isn’t there hints at Daemon saying something like ‘a son for a son’ to indicate that if Aemon isn’t there, then find a son who is. Just a guess, but that smile meant something!

While they cut Daemon's response to "what if we don't find him?" its clear what he said. Blood (the 'name' of the big guy) told Cheese (the ratcatcher) he said "a son for a son". Its clear Daemon prefered Aemond's head - but would settle for any royal son.

They cut away deliberately, because the books always had it at a son of Aegon's. It fits, for one, the person she blames really is Aegon for usurping her throne & two, Aemond is too tough for a pair of street rats to fight. They'd have died in seconds.

Yeah, I think Daemon told them to do this, and I think if stupid Criston Cole wouldn't have been screwing Alicent, it could have been stopped. I literally wanted to crawl through that screen and kill that dude, when he kicked the dog. I am sitting in my bed with my Emotional Support Dog, Anakin, and he means the World and more to me. I stepped on his foot by accident a couple of years ago, because he got hyper and jumped out in front of me...He yelped, and I immediately started bawling. I hate Animal cruelty. I like my Dog, Axolotl, and Fish way more than I like people...I am not even exaggerating. I have had 2 Misscarriages, I lost one Daughter at 6 months old, my oldest Son has Cerebral Palsy, and my Husband's oldest Son died from a Heroin overdose. I feel Rhaenyra's pain. It is almost unbearable losing a child at all, especially more than one...But, she lost two in a day. I am surprised she didn't tell Syrax to "Dracarys" her. Not sure if you guys know this, but, both Rhaenyra and her dragon were grieving when they found the remains. Arax was Syrax’s hatchling. She wasn’t feeling her riders pain, she was feeling her own.
