Manha

Eeee i have a love and hate relationship with this drama so i am excited to see and listen to your reactions and thoughts. Love the gream reaper and the nephew's character by the way.

I've been patiently waiting for this one. This will be my 8th time watching this series and to be honest, I can watch it 8 more times. We are all aware of the hype surrounding this show so it is easy to view it through a biased lens given that so many great shows had preceded it up until now. If I may so humbly do so, I have a small request to ask of both you guys as well as any new viewers of this series. I ask that you please view the series without comparing it to more current shows. This series was shot in 2016 so please take that into consideration. Also, you might see tons of references that more current shows have copied from this show but have done so with better technology. Again please keep in mind that this show was the best for its time. Thank you in advance for your consideration of my request. P.S For me, this show will always remain the G.O.A. T of KDramas. :) Hapy viewing everyone...

Okay, I'm at 55:56 and I CANNOT with these subs!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!! Okay, I'll have to see how the subs turned out for DOTS, too, because the writer of Goblin co-wrote that one. And she is notorious for being creative with words and using puns left and right, which makes her works a nightmare for translators. But having that said, these subs are still bad because they're just making shit up here and there (This makes me MAD because making subs is my profession).

Shreya

This show came at a time when the stories in Kdrama were very monotonous or melodramatic but after goblin the fantasy dramas skyrocketed and also a lot of the screenplay and comedy from this series became like a hallmark in the k drama history

Serendipity008

Yayyy this is one of the most epic dramas ever. I honestly was not bothered or cringed by the age gap at all even on my first watch. Probably because they have good chemistry. 😄 I hope you find it the same way. So glad that you now have a chance to see Kim Go Eun she’s a brilliant actress. If you plan to see her other dramas Cheese in The Trap and Little Women are good ones. Ohhh and another great thing about this drama is the OST!!! It has the most beautiful songs ever!! 🤩🤩 Enjoy this show!!

Joev Tan

The Hotel Del Luna connections! I think you missed out that Chansung was the King earlier. This is an interesting series, too long but the journey is worth it.

Danis

Okay, I made it to the end. I mean, the subs aren't horrendous, but when so much is bound to get lost in translation anyway, in my personal professional opinion, it's not okay to make shit up for the convenience of translating even if they're only few lines here and there because then you're setting up the viewers to miss important clues! (END RANT) For future reference, there are four major periods in Korean history prior to the current "Republic of Korea"--Three Kingdoms Period (+historically, the United Silla period was important, but they don't use it for kdramas very much so we'll let it go), the Goryeo Dynasty, the Joseon Dynasty, and the Korean Empire (+existing along with the painful Japanese colonial rule), in that order. There are different dynasties and tiny nations that existed before, between, and around them, but the above four are what you often see in period Kdrama pieces. And as a rule of thumb, in period pieces, if a woman has her hair up, it means she's married. So in court, the queen, the royal concubines, and the court ladies all have their hair up because they are all women that "belong" to the king. So the lady that got shot with the arrow early on was the queen.

Right, no double standards here. 🤣😂 Let's talk about the age gap and get it out of the way so we can enjoy the rest of the show. 😅 The leads - Gong Yoo was 37 and Kim Go-eun was 25 at the time of filming. 12 yrs is not a big deal, real people have gotten together with a bigger age gap. Everyone was legal here. 😂 For the story, I'm ok with it too! Just like HDL, he's like 1000yrs and she's a teenager. She does age during the show so she's not gonna stay a teen forever. What I personally didn't like was that she looked 16 the whole time. So...trying to watch this very grown masculine man next to a teen looking 25yr old....not my cup of tea. I wish they had chosen a different actress. And I see this more as a me problem.

Kate

I forgot how much aesthetic this show has. It's like it was made for Tumblr gifs

Yoona

Omg I'm so excited this drama is so iconic

Seelia

With the leads out of the way, I really enjoyed the plot. Of course the show will cover everything through flashbacks. I loved the bromance between the Gobblin and the Grim Reaper, and the 2nd romance in the story. Fun fact, the villain in this show is also going to be in your other drama DOTS. 😂

Danis

it's funny that they keep mentioning hotel de luna, which i guess they can't help because they watched that first. But the writers of hotel de luna got hella criticized when it aired, accused of ripping off the goblin LOL. SOO many of the CGI ideas and fantasy elements of the Goblin have been referenced and homaged over and over again in fantasy Kdramas post-Goblin

Seelia

No he wasn't. That is a different actor, Kim Min-jae. Yes, they kind of look-a-like but Chan-seong was played by actor Yeo Jin-goo. 😊

Danis

the age thing NEVER bothered me,, because in my head,,, if you've lived for a millennia, does age have any meaning at that point? lol but i guess that's just me.

Lani S

Kim Go Eun was 25 when this came out. She just has that face that can be made to look like 19, plus, she's intentionally acting child like to get that effect. I think she also intentionally lost weight for this show to make her look even younger. Give the story time to unfold. There's a reason why the Goblin meets her at this age. It's not like they both fall in love at first sight. They're not in love right now. That I love you at the end is not a real declaration of love. So nothing creepy about it. In Korean age, she will be an adult when she turns 20. I wish though you would use a different streaming service like Viki. What you're using is mangling the subtitles. Kim Eun Sook is famous for her writing, very poetic. And the translation on this one is not doing her work justice.

Seelia

Thanks for that bit of info about the 4 main time periods! And yes, I've only seen mostly the Joseon Dynasty and maybe one or two Goryeo? 🤔 I can't be sure.

Joev Tan

thanks for correcting.. I thought the voice was also too familiar!

Seelia

It's bound to happen. Just like every fantasy owes Tokien for writing TLOTR first.

Seelia

Yes! They both have that deep sexy manly voice. 😍😂 And they do look a lot alike.

strawberry jam

OMG FINALLY… I had to join back for this omh

Liv

I think the blowing a candle thing was genius, the imagery of it speaks with a foreign audience and the local culture makes it possible for 18 years to pass without them being aware of each other. And the show addresses it right away. I love this writer 🥰

Shreya

So Lisa from black pink named Gong Yoo (the lead actor) as her ideal type hehe -I don’t know if you connected this but he’s from train to busan and this drama was his major comeback to tv after long time from films

Shreya

Also as much as I love this drama the problem is not the age GAP the problem is with depiction of a minor as a romantic interest to a thirty something guy but yea the drama does has loopholes with this when they actually develop feelings so yea

rose

I'm sorry I really don't get the hype of this drama

rose

she's asking for 100 won while she has a whole cake in front of her? Cake in Korea is so expensive. Wondering how did she afford that

Heartwell

I think the fantasy in the genre of k-drama romance comedy was largely influenced by 'My Love From the Star' and the 'Goblin'. The beginning is 'My Love From the Star (alien)', And 'Goblin' are so popular Since then, there have been a lot of romance fantasy genres of non-human characters lol An animation director named ‘Suzume’ was also interviewed and said that he was inspired by watching Goblins.

Danis

this, this is the direct result of crap subbing. She wasn't literally asking for 100 won. It was an expression in Korean for her life to be just a little bit better. Obviously mistranslated.

Habiba

Its not just you. I mean.. Even a 100 yrs old person would be too young for him. So I did not even mind.

Habiba

I really hope the age gap thing will be brought up once and once only, if we have to be reminded that they're 1000yrs apart throughout the whole thing, its going to ruin the vibes ( im talking for the audience mainly) we know what y'all think already, that show has been out for almost a decade. Please let's leave this discussion in the past and focus on the plotline. Had he been with a 100 yr old woman, he would still have been too old for her.

Priyanka Banerjee

Rewatching this, the filming of the drama is done so well. Wow. Also from what I can remember this drama has some pretty good storylines. Excited for your next reaction.

Auna

My favorite relationship in this entire show is the Goblin and the Reaper 🤣

Amelie

The nostalgia from just the opening with the OST 🫠🤩

Just_iny333

You stated you weren't sure how he became a Goblin... Just in case you missed it, or forgot... There was a voice talking right before he rose back up and that kinda explains it. At 29:22 it basically says "your subjects saved your soul, but because the blade is stained with too much blood you'll be punished to watch your loved ones die. So although your getting this blessing this too shall be your punishment." I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist of it. Hence, became a Goblin.

Ella

I know many people don't do this, but I was wondering if you guys would ever take the risk of watching a medical related kdrama?

EJ

자막이 조금 이상하네요 ㅜㅜ

Jinah

There are too many mistranslations in the subtitles, and the same goes for the next episodes.
