This is the movie that inspired the writer of LR to base the actress Kim Hye Yoon to Im Sol on. She got 6 awards for this movie. Thanks so much for reacting to this movie.

This was a pretty good movie! I think the acting and emotions were enough for me to make up for some shortcomings in the plot. That being said I think lots of people who aren't familiar with Korean history, culture and society would just look at this movie (and many other similar ones) and think it may be boring. That's why I want to bring up the concept of "Han" at this point as it is very prevalent in many of the movies and shows (and other things) made by Koreans such as this one, that's why many of them are so depressing lol. It stems from a sense of loss of identity, abandonment, loneliness, desperation, resentment, grief and longing. Han is so unique to Korea(ns) that there's not even a direct translation for it and it can be understood as the national character, deeply ingrained in the Korean identity and still prevalent in today's society. Since it's deeply rooted in the events of the Japanese occupation of Korea I'm sure you will recognize this sentiment and how it came to be while watching Mr. Sunshine as well!
