Paper Tiger

The film is "Interview with the Vampire"

In the drama, the place Deok-sun’s family moves to was just fields and farmland at the time—completely worthless in terms of real estate. But today, it’s one of the most expensive and wealthy neighborhoods in Korea. The area is called Pangyo, and it’s now known as a hotspot for wealthy young couples. It’s full of startups, major companies, and is often called a paradise for young entrepreneurs. Many consider it the most successful example of a planned city in Korea. So if Deok-sun’s family held on to that house, by 2025, they’d definitely be rich! Moving to Pangyo might be the one and only successful decision Deok-sun’s dad, Sung Dong-il, ever made—haha. And since Jung-hwan’s family also moved to the same neighborhood, they’re probably even richer now. In Seoul, Gangnam has always been home to Korea’s richest families—even back then, it was expensive, and now it’s even more so. I like to believe that Deok-sun, her family, her friends, and all their neighbors are still living somewhere happily. The final scene where grown-up Deok-sun cries in Taek’s room, remembering their childhood days in the alley, was so moving. Thank you for watching Reply 1988 with me.

Based on your discussion at the end I can tell that you wont enjoy Prison Playbook, you might enjoy Hospital Playlist just because it's more up to date standards so it's not as dragged, it's more comedy too but idk...At the end it's from same writer... Also I want to mention "My Liberation Notes" cause I saw it on polls and I can tell you that you won't enjoy this one also, it's very slow and there isn't much happening, I always say that you have to be depressed to watch and enjoy drama like this. I enjoyed it lol... but yeah...you might not be able to sit through it. It's not a rewatchable type of drama either so I was surprised that people recommend it and got on polls.

Don't feel bad about being honest in terms of your reaction and rating. I tend to agree with your take on dramas. While I liked watching this show when it came out, I never felt as strongly about it as others seemed to. I also did not think it was a good show for reaction and can see how it can be draining. I liked Prison Playbook much more than this and had previously recommended it but I think there are multiple elements about it that you won't enjoy, so I will rescind my recommendation 😬😅 I would highly recommend NOT watching Hospital Playlist if you did not like reply (it's essentially the same vibe just in a hospital setting where the group of friends are doctors). I stuck with it because I loved and had an attachment to every main cast member. If I didn't I would have dropped it. The story is not bad but it does not warrent it's length.

1988 had its moments with the family stuff but other than that, it's arguably my least favorite out of the all reply series. Honestly, i never voted for 1988 and cringed whenever people recommended it. But that's just me. I was definitely Team Jung-hwan, even tho I expected toward the end for the guy to be Taek, which made me mad just a little bit, but what made me madder was that they did Jung-hwan dirty imo. The second lead in 1994 said a line like, "I'm doomed because I'm too nice," which I totally scoffed at because I didn't think he was all that nice. I remember watching 1988 and thinking how that lines fits Jung-hwan so well lol. anywho, thanks for reacting to it!

It makes me a little sad to hear that this drama felt like homework to you. But I understand your honest reactions too! Since Hospital Playlist and Prison Playbook are by the same writer and director, I think it’s better if you don’t watch them. I don’t think they’ll match your taste.

I disagree with you have to be depressed to enjoy My liberation notes

Danis

My Liberation Notes definitely hits harder when you're depressed lol. It definitely saved my life once or twice

🤣😂 Wow...so many things to talk about! Where to start? 🤔😅 I'm gonna start by saying, I understand where you're coming from Harris. Let me try to put in perspective the viewers point of view. I don't know about other viewers but for me, if I like reactors, I always suggest shows I like first. Then I think about if you might like them. Sometimes it's a hit and sometimes it's a miss. Because at the end of the day, we are all different and will like different things. Sometimes I suggest certain shows for just one character I want you guys to see. 😂 Of course those are never selected cuz it's mostly just comments in discussion with people. The other thing I am aware of with you guys, as westerners, we would have a different view of some situations. Even with those things in mind, you guys still like some shows more than I did or vice versa. Like 2521, I watched it once. Didn't enjoy it cuz the ending sucked for me, but you guys really love it. Then Love Struck, the characters all made sense to me but you guys didn't like it. Btw, I still think you were on a Ji Won high, and watched that one with very biased views..🤣😂 Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, most of the time your Patreons just want you guys to experience the same feelings as they did. They just don't factor in the other variables when making such suggestions. 😂🤷‍♀️ In this case, yes I did choose this one cuz it was the best out of all the choices at the time. 😁 I personally didn't think it was a reaction worthy kind of show for this channel but you guys have proven me wrong on other shows so, we just never know. 🤷‍♀️

Seelia

I do agree with your unsatisfied conclusions to the series, but the ending didn't bother me that much. I mainly watched it for Bo Gum at the time. And it was a nice slice of life but it wasn't that deep for me. I didn't really care how it ended cuz with a big ensemble cast like this, some characters would not have a closure. And I was always team Taek so...😂🤣 if it had gone the other way, I probably wouldn't even bother watching with you guys again. I did not find Hwan Jung appealing. His character had so many opportunities and he never took any of them! And he always treated her like a bratty sibling. That really annoyed me. Justin said he cares behind the scenes....OK fine but some people need you to care openly too. You can't just be a simp in secret all your life. Although truthfully, most of us are probably more like him. 😂 But most of us would never have the opportunity he did and they just turn into unrequited fascinations. I do not recommend Hospital Playlist. (I never did) Especially if you guys thought this was homework. 😂 There are 2 seasons of that show and I watched both of them for you already. 🤣😂

It's fine if you don't end up liking a certain drama. But considering your discussion the other dramas from this director and writer like Hospital Playlist might not be to your liking. I enjoyed Reply 1988 but it took me years to actually watch it so I get why you would not like it. I personally enjoyed Hospital Playlist more but if you guys want a drama with an "actual plot" then it might not be for you cause HP is also the kind of drama where the storyline is just everyday lives. If for some reason you ever actually do HP you could do 1 episode per week (that is how it aired) so you don't feel like it's too much.

Zetta

Everyone has their own tastes, but with REPLY 1988 I have confirmed that I will not recommend any more dramas, because the only ones you like are the typical romantic comedies and that's it, This drama is the kind of drama that focuses on all the characters and each one goes through good and bad times, that's life. I don't think you're going to like When life gives you tangerines. either

Sammy 123

I think they will like When life gives you tangerines because it has more clear plot, it has beginning of the plot and ending so everything is wrapped up "nicely", it's more dramatic and upbeat drama too so it won't be hard to watch, it's not about daily lives either, plus it's up to date standards so it's more fast paced. I don't think Reply 1988 and WLGYT can be compared with any standards, while both are about life the writing or style are too different.

tjohannam

I also wanted for Jung-hwan and Dok-sun to get together when I watched it first. I think the actors had better chemistry as their characters than Taek and Dok-sun.

tjohannam

I agree with Harris completely, 2521 in comparison is much more engaging. Reply drags on too much, I also like slice of life shows a lot, but not 40 hours of it. 😅 And I actually watched it on 1.5 and only watched the last 5 episodes with you, where the series has a bit more plot development because the characters age.

Artemis Delphinia

Taek was definitely the correct choice for her. So much better than junghwa. A kind heart with a kind heart.
