So, two things I wanna say. I think others have told you that Pretty Derby *sometimes* follows reality. And talking about Special Week's career in specific, the races have so far been accurate. But here is where it veers into horse racing fanfiction I would say, as the main issue now is that El Condor never actually ran the 1998 Japanese Derby with Spe. I'll talk more on that race after you watch it, but for now I'll just say... Actually no, anything I say now would probably be a spoiler. I'll talk more on that once you've watched that race. Slipstream. Your context as a runner is always fascinating, but like you said in the episode, it's more useful for horse racing. They're the size of cars, and run up to 60km/h, remember. Also I'm not sure if this was intentional, but Taiki is one of the Umas with the largest... Um. Assets. In the series, so she would likely have created the biggest slipstream, especially since Spe was smaller. Also, I just wanted to say, I watched a listed regional race at the racecourse in my hometown today before coming home to watch this (Tokai Derby equivalent for my region, to give you an idea). The horse who won, pulled off a strat like Oguri, late surging, but the jockey kept the horse in the slipstream of the horse directly in front, and he won by like 7 lengths. Details for episode 3 ----------------------------------- The Teio Step 5:45 The Teio step was a unique way of walking that Teio displayed before races. If any other horse did it people would assume that they were injured, but for Teio it was just a thing he did. ----------------------------------- Horses from Cinderella Gray 8:05 While there is a big time jump, only about 10 years passed in real life, so Oguri and his generation were still alive and well. ----------------------------------- About Special Week’s record up to this point 8:24 While it seems a little ridiculous to enter high level competition this early from a human sports perspective, this isn’t too out of the ordinary for horses.due to how short their careers are. If they display the necessary ability, they get to race in high level races. ----------------------------------- Nakayama Hill The hill for the Yayoi Sho and Satsuki Sho is the same one that Belno helped out with on the Nakayama racecourse from the last race in Cinderella Gray. ----------------------------------- Yayoi Sho 12:42 The Yayoi Sho is actually a pretty major G2 race, as winning in it allows for entry into the Satsuki Sho and it is also seen as a good predictor of who will win the Satsuki Sho due to the race conditions being identical. ----------------------------------- Gold Ship being weird Gold Ship will constantly just be doing weird things because the real horse was also crazy. He is very intelligent, temperamental, and unpredictable in real life. The real horse was notoriously difficult to train, which is why Golshi is always slacking off or doing other stuff in Umamusume. Apparently he caused his real life trainer to go bald from the stress. The Rubik’s cube in particular does have some actual significance, but it will be revealed in the future. ----------------------------------- G1 Outfits 16:07 The special outfits are only for G1 races. G2 and G3 races still have the usual uniforms. ----------------------------------- El Condor Pasa not competing in the classics It might seem strange for her to not compete for the triple crown given how good she is, but the real life reason for this is that he was not allowed to do so due to being an American born horse. ----------------------------------- Sei being led into the gate 24:56 When this happens, it usually means that the horse had to be led into the gate in real life. Details for episode 4 ----------------------------------- Special Week’s weight gain Special Week did indeed gain 10kg between the Yayoi Sho and Satsuki Sho. ----------------------------------- Pacing differences Another big difference between Cinderella Gray and the rest of the series is that Cinderella Gray has much more time to work with due to being a long running series. Cinderella Gray’s first season had 23 episodes to cover just the first ~40% of the manga, while each season of Pretty Derby has 12-13 episodes to cover the entire careers of their respective main characters. As such, time passes much faster. ----------------------------------- Taiki Shuttle 50:12 Just copy and pasting this from my comment on the previous video: Taiki Shuttle: Considered one of the greatest mile distance runners in Japanese history, and the first sprint-mile distance runner to be selected as JRA horse of the year and also the first foreign born horse to be in the JRA hall of fame. 51:46 Winning 2 G1s in a row is especially significant in this context because there simply are not as many short distance G1 races. ----------------------------------- Slipstream for horses According to an initial online search, it can reduce drag for horses by up to 66% ----------------------------------- El Condor Pasa in the Japanese Derby In real life, he did not run in this race. "What if El Condor Pasa was allowed to participate in the Japanese Derby to race against Special Week?" is one of the hypothetical scenarios the first season uses to change IRL history. The real El Condor Pasa wasn't allowed to enter The Classics due to being an American-bred horse, the same reason why Maruzensky wasn't allowed either (although on a really stupid technicality).

If I tell you they literally did not change anything about Gold Ship’s personality from the real horse would you believe me LOL The real Golshi notoriously absolutely hated training and his trainers. He was known for his… almost rage baiting personality LOL. He was insanely talented, and has a record of 6 G1 victories in his career. To put that into perspective, Tamamo Cross had 3 G1 victories in his whole career and Symboli Rudolf had 7. But that’s not even the wild part. If you look at Golshi’s races, he would linger in the back like an End Closer, but not because that’s the strategy they went with, it was because the horse felt like he didn’t care about the race. The jockeys have said that the real battle when piloting Golshi is just to keep him interested, if you can get him to lock in then he just wins and if he doesn’t care then he’ll just not even try at all and lose horribly, almost on purpose just to spite his trainers LOL And the most insane part is that, almost every horse when they retire will have injuries and other irregularities with them cuz of going all out running like that for so long. When Golshi retired they checked him for injuries, and found damn near nothing wrong with him, which was unheard of. And they noticed that he even ran faster after he retired and was just chilling on the farm. This means that throughout his entire career he NEVER RAN AT FULL STRENGTH EVEN ONCE. Gold Ship is a quirky little asshole but everyone loves him because he’s a quirky little asshole, and they just kept the exact same personality when turning him into the Uma, and Golshi is a major fan favorite for a reason
