Have always loved this movie! Agree it's my favorite over the Notebook. I never read the book for this movie but I have heard this is a rare time where the movie is even better than the book. Another good one with Mandy Moore is Chasing Liberty, much less sad promise.

The scene when Landon grabs his dad’s shirt out of desperation, ruins me every time. The most beautiful moment in the film for me. I’m gonna defend her dad here. Granted, he is blunt but he’s being honest with her. Her behavior is questionable. Not because of her feelings for Landon but because she’s lying to him by not telling him she’s sick. That’s why he says her behavior is sinful. Her dad knows the decision she has made and is allowing her to make her choices but her choices are bringing someone else into her situation. It’s a tough situation no matter the side you’re on here. But people want to give the dad a hard time and not come at it from his point as well. I’m glad you picked up on it. He’s not just thinking about Jamie here. He’s also thinking about Landon.

Yeah her father wasn’t being judgmental of Landon, he was almost trying to protect Landon. Jamie entered the relationship with Landon without telling him the truth. That’s why when she said “I love him.” He replied with “than be fair to him, before things get worse.” Because he knew she was getting worse.
