Yesssssss

AJ

I love this movie. I'm a wicked FANATIC. I love all musical theatre

Alysia Liwanag

How are you watching this? Is this on streaming now?

Tara Cabache

I've never clicked a video SO fast! I can't wait to see your reaction (and the movie again)! 😊

Jessi

YES!!!

Monica Torres

The color grading to show Cynthia’s real skin color during the wizard and I WAS done intentionally. It was specifically done during the lyric where she’s daydreaming that the wizard would ask her if she wanted him to remove the green from her skin. Her name is canonically GLINDA. But in the wicked books and musical it starts as GALINDA and is changed to Glinda. Elphaba did not have a name in the wizard of oz and her name in oz the great and powerful was Theodora. The wrote of the wicked books named her after the author of the original wizard of oz books. L. Frank Baum they took essentially the initials and made her name L El Fa PHA Ba BA. To honor the author in this which is technically the most popular record of a fanfiction. Universal did NOT have to beg Ariana to be in Wicked. It was actually Ariana’s dream role to play Glinda. She has spoke. About her desire to either play Glinda on broadway or in film for over a decade. The actress Kristen chenowith who originally portrayed Glinda in wicked when the broadway first opened has even spoken about how Ariana used to tell her as a small child how she wanted to play Glinda one day, or was her dream. So when she was offered the role she accepted without a single ounce of hesitation. There are BTS videos on YouTube about how sad she was when filming parts ended. Also not sure of you knew but the singing by both Cynthia and Ariana was done live on set instead of in recording studios. So each scene of them singing in the film is alive take. The song you liked where Elphaba was singing about fiyero is called I’m not that girl. The woman who played Elsa and the woman singing with her in that scene in Oz are the original actresses who played elphaba and galinda in wicked on broadway. Elsa ( Idina Menzel was elphaba)

Jessi

Yeah, Prime. Found out it'd be out SUPER early and pre-ordered like it was my job.

Monica Torres

It premiered on streaming today. You can rent or buy it on Amazon prime video and I think on Apple TV as well.

Jordan

Highly suggest watching the wizard of oz. I'll never forget watching Margaret Hamilton (the original Wicked witch) giving her interview on Mr Rogers (long before Wicked was written) and her explaining that the witch is just really frustrated that she never gets what she wants. That changed my view on the witch. And I feel like Wicked is such a perfect complement to that too

Jordan

Your introduction to the ICONIC baby nessa rose!!! She had one line and she DELIVERED that "yes" the most adorable thing I've ever seen

Alysia Liwanag

I’m not that girl - is the song you like

Kristal Whalen

So the wise ones (Elsa and the other girl that looks familiar aka Idina menzel and Kristin chenoweth ) are the original Glinda and Elphaba from when it debuted on broadway. Yes Ariana had to audition for Wicked she’s talked about it, it’s a completely different skill set than she’s done before but it’s a role she’s dreamed about for years.

BtsOT79798

did I stop what I was doing to rewatch wicked once again for the second time? yes, do I care? no... Wicked is probably my all time favorite musical and I love a lot of what the movie added or changed in the overall musical from musical to movie... a lot of the songs are longer because they have talking parts inbetween or action parts.... but one change I don't understand is the lyric change for no one mourns the wicked (opening number) when the mother was giving birth to Elphaba... the line was changed from atrocious to uncanny... which to me minimizes the point of the song...which is supposed to show the fathers hatred for elphaba from the very start... and uncanny just doesn't fit right...

BtsOT79798

what did you think of the line change in no one mourns the wicked from atrocious to uncanny?

BtsOT79798

they were a part of the oz playgoers or something like that during one short day!

AJ

Idk. It was weird because atrocious isn’t a bad word or a controversial word so idk why they changed it.

BtsOT79798

I wonder if they'll explore the reason as to why fieryo was imune to the pollen that put everyone to sleep in part 2... the writer in me is curious!

Rosielauren xo

Thank you!! I’m from the UK and we don’t get this on Amazon prime till Friday!! Lucky enough I saw it in the cinema so it’s nice to watch along with you!

Jordan

The actresses that were in it for just one song: Kristen Chenowith (Maleficent from Descendants) and Idina Menzel (Elsa) were the original Glinda and Elphaba in the broadway musical! Their cameo was kept totally a secret!

Tara Cabache

Now that I've finished the reaction - I love how many things you said a second before Elphaba did! I saw this in the cinema twice. I love it SO much! My favourite songs in this half, based mostly on what they did with them visually for the movie instead of on stage are What is This Feeling, Dancing Through Life, and Popular. My absolute favourite songs in the show are going to be in part 2 though. I was worried about the casting when it was announced. But I've eaten my words. I genuinely think this is the best musical adaptation that's been done. I can't wait for part 2!

BtsOT79798

I will say wicked is set before the wizard of oz... it only coencides with the wizard of oz towards the end of the musical when she's killed by dorathy...

Yami Pantoja

So its complicated on weather wicked is cannon to wizard of oz (for copy right issues, but mostly everyone agrees that it is (me)) but part one of wicked which is this one, happens before Dorothy arrives to oz, part 2 is actively happening while Dorothy is in oz and continues a bit after. So I wonder how they are going to portray it, but I have high hopes. If you want to watch the wizard of oz, I think before or after part two would be great for that reason.

Jordan

My favorite songs are Defying Gravity and Dancing through Life. Popular and For Good (from part 2) are up there too

Daniel Kemp

Saw it in the cinema twice, one of the greatest films ever. My favourite songs are Defying Gravity, Dancing through Life, and Popular. And also can I just say that the choreography in this movie was impeccable, especially in Dancing through life.

Amber Govan

The song that you were asking the title is called ‘ Im not that Girl’ My fave would be The wizard and I. I love how Cynthia made it her own and to be honest prefer her version over the Original Broadway Version. This Movie and the original musical holds such a deep special place for so many people including myself. 100% rewatch to catch all the bits you missed while reacting. And No you are not the only one who got emotional in the last moment. Almost everyone who watches did too.

Nicole Williams

So excited for part 2. I didn't know jack about the first one but grew up with the wiz and the original wizard of oz like u so I was going in blind but after watching I went into a deep dive cuz of how interesting it is

Nicole Williams

I'm also wondering after watching this movie, did wensday rip off of wicked alittle? Or am I dragging it? Cuz like the braids, the uniform, the school, the 2 different roommates who eventually become best friends, elphebas visions ect.

Luna

Wicked is a 1995 novel (a fanfic really originated from the Wizard of Oz. Which is why Wicked is canon to WOO but WOO is not canon to Wicked) and in the book they were written exactly like this from the beginning. Maybe they could’ve! They did it first. But maybe they didn’t? They are pretty common themes. Who knows! I definitely love Wicked more 😆

Ashli Mays

I really enjoy your videos and I really enjoyed this movie when I seen it. My favorite song is “I’m not that girl”

Nicole Williams

Got u, so like it's not known if thts tru they just follow similar trad plots but we all like wicked better lmfaoooo

Luna

So Wicked is really a “fanfic” someone created and was published in 1995. Wicked is canon to WOO but WOO is not canon to Wicked since WOO was done way before that and Wicked was not really written by the same person who wrote WOO. Ariana is together with the actor that plays Boq, Ethan Slater. They met during the set but they’re not married tho. FOR GLINDA!!! Ariana had to audition like 5 times because Jon (the director) wasn’t convinced she could do a good job. There were other people that also auditioned for her but in the end he chose Ariana because she was undoubtedly Glinda since the first second she walked in. For her this is a dream come true, she’s dreamed of doing Wicked since she was little. Her granny took her to see the Musical with the OG cast when she was little and she has a story that she went backstage to meet Kristin (OG Glinda) and she took her hands (she was a child!!) and asked her if she could be Glinda and Kristin told her that one day she could and then when she grew up and started her career she became friends with Kristin so when she got the part she called Kristin screaming that she was Glinda and when they wrapped up the film she went crying to Kristin asking her if she took good care of Glinda and Kristin said yes and that she was very proud of her. 🥹🥹🥹 On the other hand, my favorite songs from Part I will always be Popular and What Is This Feeling? Ugh, and how can we forget about Defying Gravity? Love that one too!! Honestly the whole soundtrack. I really love how Ariana and Cynthia sang this. They changed some of the lyrics of Defying Gravity toward the end from the musical like “Look at her! She’s wicked! Kill her!” (In the movie) and in the musical they go like “Look at her, she’s wicked! Get her!” OH AND FUN FACT! The wise ones (the blonde and brunette girl that sing toward the end of One Short Day in the Emerald City are the OG Broadway actresses for Glinda and Elphaba. Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel. I definitely saw this movie like 3 times at the movies and re watched it last night and dragged everyone with me. All the family members that were at the house waiting for midnight had to watch Wicked with me. 😂

Tshepile Teyana Salvatore

This movie is so incredible I watched it yesterday and wow I’m so excited to rewatch as many times as possible I was super impressed with Ariana’s vocals I mean? No one mourns the wicked wow that brought tears to my eyes

Tshepile Teyana Salvatore

They auditioned this was Ariana’s Dream Role since she was 10/13 I’m not completely sure she saw wicked on broadway and knew she wanted to play Glinda one day Other Artists that auditioned for the role of Glinda are Dove Cameron (Descendants,Hairspray Live ) Reneè Rapp (Mean girls the musical ) Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia )

Tshepile Teyana Salvatore

Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba ) is in the movie Harriet (2019) I would say that was her breakout role

Gio Bellisario

How you sat at the end with your face was me in the theaters and then it said to be continued… I was in disbelief 🫢

Rosielauren xo

Cynthia Erivo is British. Started off in the colour purple here before going to the USA to star in the same show. She’s got an emmy, Grammy and Tony. She just needs an Oscar to become EGOT status. Think she has 2 Oscar noms though Both auditioned and really wanted it! This was Ariana’s dream role. Really lucked out with both leads! I love how most/all of the cast are theatre backgrounds. I know a lot of west end performers are in the ensemble also! You can really tell that this film has singers who can act (for the most part) and not the other way round c

GroovyGadget

Yes, you must watch The Wizard of Oz!

AJ

My favorite songs is Wizard and I & Defying Gravity & Loathing

Desirae

Loved the musical when I was younger and was so happy they made it into a movie! Ariana and Cynthia did amazing! I can’t wait for part 2! It’s gonna wreck me! Definitely my favorite movie of all time now. It’s so hard to choose which song is my favorite! My top songs are No One Mourns The Wicked, Wizard & I, I’m Not That Girl, Defying Gravity, What Is This Feeling and For Good (which isn’t part of this first movie but will be in the second one!)

Chelle 🩶

I’m watching this with YOU before I watch the movie myself! So yay lol

Robin Rollins

you should consider doing music reactions. i’d love to see your reaction to the eternal sunshine album 😁

StaySaneInsideInsanity

You should totally watch Wizard of Oz. So you can see all the references and everything, how everything ties together.

Kristina Fagan

I have seen this at the movies. My favorite songs are 1. Dancing Through Life where everyone was dancing in the library 2.Defiying Gravity the last song in the movie 3.I'm Not That Girl When they set the lion cub free on the forest

Kristina Fagan

Yes, The Wizard of Oz is a must

Jade

My favorite songs from Wicked have to be 1. Defying Gravity 2. No Good Deed (coming in part 2 👀) 3. The Wizard and I

Jade

Fun fact! Idina Menzel & Kristin Chenoweth (the two women performing in the Emerald City) originally played Elphaba & Glinda on Broadway back in the 2000's. Ever since Wicked became a popular stage production, there's been talks of them playing their roles in a film adaptation. So, even though they only make a special cameo, it's awesome that they got to appear in the film all these years later and pass the torch to Cynthia & Ariana ♡

Jade

(also yes pls watch the original wizard of oz, it's a timeless classic lol)

Michelle Berry

Ari is dating Boc in real life...the guy who's playing her sisters boyfriend

Michelle Berry

Saw it in West End a good few years ago & saw the movie in cinema 🎥

Beth N

I think it makes more since to change it to uncanny because I don't think her nanny (who seemed to care for her a whole lot) would call her atrocious (and the word atrocious means horrifyingly wicked, dreadful and terrible)

AJ

That’s very true. I agree with you

Que'Shella Hall

Just saw this in the theatre Sunday. I left the theatre feeling really sad and a little upset. It was a great movie it’s just people are so cruel and mean and I can’t stand it. Bad things happening to good people. Never seen wicked either btw I just knew 1 song because of glee

Kee Leichtle

Yes you should 100% watch The Wizard of Oz! Firstly, because it's a classic and secondly, I think you will understand a lot of the easter eggs this movie showcases after watching it.

Sav Miller

If you think Cynthia’s vocals are incredible in defying gravity, just consider that the whole time she’s flying around and doing loops in the sky she’s actually doing that in a harness WHILE SINGING. 🤯 The whole movie they did live vocals, which really makes the music feel more real. Cynthia and Ari sound so good in duet it’s insane. And they are friends. They’re actually kind of obsessed with each other right now. 😂 My personal favorite songs are defying gravity (ofc), popular (bc Ari is so hilarious in it), and no one mourns the wicked (Ari’s acting during that song had me crying at the start of the movie 😭).

Phygment

Related but kinda not? Check out epic the musical. It's a concept album that has animatics for each song. And it's not something you have to worry about cutting because copyright because Jorge loves when ppl react to his stuff. Also epic fandom is kinda huge so you'd draw a whole new fanbase to discover your awesomeness

Lucile Byrd

My favorite Wicked song, No Good Deed, is not in act 1. But my favorite act 1 song is I'm Not That Girl. I truly cannot stand Galinda/Glinda's character! When I was a kid, something just felt off about her in the Wizzard of Oz movie, then I read the Oz books and liked her less and less. And then the Wicked book came out and I hated her even more in that and the following Broadway musical based on the book. The musical made Galinda/Glinda more important than she was in the book and used the beautiful music to make her less of a vapid BI***, and this movie goes even further with making everything so beautiful that it is easy to see Galinda/Glinda as a slightly selfish yet good meaning person. But looking past her looks and voice and the overwhelming beauty of the movie overall, Galinda/Glinda is at best a narcissistic bully, and at worst fascist loving villain. I mean, none of the "good" choices she made were done for good reasons, she either made them for selfish reasons or cruel reasons, or both. And even her defense of Elphaba at the Ozdust Ballroom was done not because she genuinely felt guilty for her cruel prank on Elphaba, but because after pulling her prank she learned that Elphaba got her into the sorcery class which was her lifelong dream. But then she just gaslights and abandons Elphaba in the Emerald City to side with the fascist Wizzard who publicly insults & vilifies Elphaba.

✨E.J ✨

You probably will want to wait until you watch Part 2 so nothing is spoiled for you, but you HAVE to listen to the original musical. It’s part of my daily rotation of music I listen to. I have yet to actually go see it on broadway but I plan to soon!

Jasmine Scarlet

My favorite song is Defying Gravity
