I WATCHED ONE OF THE BIGGEST CLASSICS OF ALL TIME TONIGHT! Recently watching Wicked I asked if I should visit the OG movie. There was not a single "No" in the comments! This movie was fun, and I have a greater grasp on the story line moving forward! ENJOY!

I've not seen the Wiz yet but I've heard it's more faithful to the original novel than The Wizard of Oz is. Mainly that the Wizard of Oz combines the Good witches of the north and south into one (Glinda) whereas in the original story, and the Wiz they are two separate witches. There's one more major Oz movie that you should check out; "Return to Oz." It's a sequel to the Wizard of Oz and is fairly faithful to the books. It was released in the 80's and takes place shortly after the events of the Wizard of Oz. (PS Blue is my favorite color)

Judy Garland passed away in 1969 at 47 yrs old due to an overdose. She dealt with a lot of abuse in her life that many young stars go through. It's so bad even now and I cant imagine how awful it was back then.

Elphaba also used poppies to put the class to sleep in Wicked (like the Wicked witch did here). A connection! But I'm sure the original reason they used poppies is that poppies are actually used to make laughing gas

But the wicked explanation isn’t the real explanation, wicked was based on the characters established in the wizard of oz by a different author so even though Galinda/ Glinda stated “ it just says road to me” referring to the yellow when the wizard is picking the color it’s not the creators reason for the road to be yellow. Lol. ** In The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the yellow brick road and Dorothy's silver slippers (they were just to ruby slippers so they would pop in the movie) are symbolic of the gold and silver monetary debate of the late 19th century.  Explanation  * Yellow brick road: Represents the gold standard * Silver slippers: Represent the Populist Movement's call for the dollar to be backed by silver * Dorothy: Represents the average American

When I was younger I was so mad they had a witch of the north, east, and west but didn’t have a witch of the south. I understood that the east and west were sisters so in my child brain I assumed the north and south would have been sisters too if she existed so it actually frustrated me that she didn’t exist and if she did that she wasn’t in the movie or even mentioned. Hearing that there is a witch of the south and they combined the north and south witch into one for the movie does make my child self feel a little better 😂😂

Fun fact, Liza Minelli is one of Judy Garlands daughters. She was 17! when she made this movie.

Best version/singer of Somewhere Over the Rainbow is IZ! And my favorite color is blue (more accurately, turquoise)/ I have always loved the bad guys in disney (and other) movies, but this was the first where I deeply disliked the "good" guys! They make it clear that the Wizzard is a scam artist, but I always disliked Glinda even more because she is cruel to the wicked witch by gloating over the death of her sister, stealing her shoes and giving them to Dorothy and telling her not to give them back (regardless of the "reason, those shoes belong to the wicked witch!), manipulates a child and in the end remains as the sole leader of Oz, with the 3 other leaders either dead of leaving Oz.

Sweetie, I am even more certain that you are hating for hating's sake because you've vastly misread some characerisations and motives. The witch in this movie is in NO WAY sympathetic or meant to be.
