I don't know if you know it already but it looks like you don't so I will write it here: The only people who are allowed to rear palace are concubines, servant girls and eunuchs. Being a doctor means you have good, stable job. You don't want to lose you masculinity just to work in rear palace. Luomen - Maomao's dad, became an eunuch to study medicine abroad, basically he was sponsored by Emperor in exchange for working in rear palace and thus becoming eunuch.

In the first episode when Maomao left the flower with the note that the powder was poison it was not Lihua who threw it away but Shin. So Lihua never even got a chance to save her baby. Also Lihua is the eldest consort I believe she’s 22 or 23.

Even though the Chinese civilisation is extremely old, it is an empire after all and there are hundreds of ethnicities within the China we know now. Various dynasties have been ruled by different ethnicities but still considered "Chinese". Even the Han people which makes up for over 90% of Chinese is really just an amalgamation or mix of various ethnicities throughout history which have been assimilated into the Han. Cities and structures being built or owned by another ethnicity isn't unusual given how much war and invasion has taken place.

The rear palace feels like it's a synthetic city, because it's based on China's "Forbidden City", which in and of itself is essentially a city in its own merit within the capital city of Beijing. Though I'm sure you guys are familiar with it.
