Favorite anime. Dub is way easier to understand the nuance of many conversations in this anime (they did a great job translating and doing the English dub). The Japanese subtitles take a little more effort to understand the cultural nuances. Those who watch lots of anime can probably pick up some of the nuance. But it takes effort. Those who just want to enjoy the show will probably appreciate the dub more. The big example is in the episode where we meet Hori’s dad. In the sub, when he’s talking to Miyamura about dating his daughter it literally sounds like they are putting Hori down. You need to understand the Japanese nuance to realize the subtitles do a poor job of conveying the actual conversation. The dub of the same conversation sounds COMPLETELY different from the subs and actually has them agreeing at the end of the convo about Hori’s positives. Just watch the sub and dub of both and you’ll see what I mean. Even in this first episode I felt like some of the conversations were alright with Tohru and such. Whereas the dub conveys a growing friendship.

Am not the biggest fan of Horimiya, so have never rewatched prior to trying to with y’all (but figure this is a good opportunity to give it another go & see if my opinion’s changed) & ngl… completely deleted from my memory those first scenes with the teacher. 😭😭😭
