I always find this episode interesting with the development of michael. Its the argument of nature vs nurture imo. As a parent, surely raising a kid in a peaceful village with nice people and content families will ensure that you dont end up like a cut throat blood thirsty gangster, yet michael will still hold onto the shelby hunger for action. Whereas someone like ada and even finn to an extent will grow up in this environment around men like tommy and john and yet will still find a way to resist the need of always feeling on edge.

to be fair to tommy, arthur’s “medicine” was opium and he warned ada and told her to come home and she refused. and he still put men on her to protect her and then bought her a house. tommy’s main drive is his family and to protect them. that’s why he continues to build and expand his business. because he’s seen that the more power you have the more protected you are in his world and ada thinks just because she’s discarded the shelby name, that no one will see her as one. and that’s just not true—she’s still really naive
