We've had a glimpse of how Meruem would view kids. In the episode where the eagle attacked Komugi. He was talking to his royal guards about how in their way to the palace, he killed a kid for no reason and now he realizes that that kid could have had the potential to surpass him in some other field. That was one of my favorite moments in this arc btw and it's a callback to how I told you guys that Togashi doesn't do child killings like that just for shock factor. The problem is that Meruem does have good intention but as Wes says, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. He may have good intentions but being a new born, he doesn't really know how the real world works and only has theories about how he would implement his utopia. He's basically a teenager or a college student that is full of idealism thinking that he knows better than old people but again, even though he has good intentions, eventually it would be broken down because of real life factors.

Just to say that 130 and 131 need to be watched together. At this rate you will need to watch, 129,130,and 131 together. This is a must imo

The ants are essentially a bioplague. If every female is capable of becoming a queen, then one of the humanoid ones left alive (and wishes to do so) means the potential to rapidly genocide entire nations. The King is too powerful. Too much to go unchecked, and he's only been alive for a month or two and has the potential to grow even stronger. Meruem's intended society is very much not a good one, but it is far better than his initial plans. The wording he uses is very very deliberate and will come up more later. The Royal Guard have 3 different philosophies regarding the King. Pitou and Youpi are more aligned. Pitou cares about the king's safety and happiness most of all. Youpi is a knight who will honorably enact the king's will without question. Pouf, however, believes most in his ideals of what the King SHOULD be and not who he actually is, not necessarily what the king wants or would make him happy.

I love how locked in Gon is in the first scene. He is between two of the most terrifying being in his universe and he has the nerve to keep them both hostage with 0 hesitation.

Netero is one crazy dude and i love him for that

I'm going to be a voice of dissent on this one. Strong dissent, even. There is no need to change the watch order on these upcoming episodes. In fact, they should make sure not to. Whomever did the storyboarding for these episodes did a wonderful job. There are no "half episodes", there are no two-parters. Every episode stands by itself, it's focus being handled within the episode. Additionally, most every episode is amazing, so they should take the time to digest the important ones rather than rush. If 3 episodes in a row are great together, then 2 episodes plus time to stop and digest for a week before tackling the 3rd is even better. As a final point, the Chimera Ant arc ends on an even number, so if they continue as they are, the will conclude this arc at the end of their weekly drop. If they did do a 3-fer, they'll end up with drop that's half Chimera Ant arc and half of the next.

If you remember corretly from the hunter exam, Netero choose the final test to be about the opponents making the other admit defeat to win which why Gon won because despite being weaker than Hanzo, Hanzo coudn't make him admit defeat, and it is the same exact deal he made with the king "make me admit defeat and will tell you your name". There are many other things that hint at Netero's personality and habits throughout the show and especially way back in the hunter exam that are all actually displayed in this part of the story

The way Netero's face changes is connected with Buddhism; his appearance and his power give off a Buddhist vibe. I'm no expert, but the evil face is somehow connected with this; the evil face of Buddha is a canonical thing

I think the "too powerful to be left alive" argument is one of the biggest points of this arc for sure. We humans are at the top of thr foodchain now and we have fought everything too powerful into submission or eradication that is not us (and heck EVEN a lot of us) and will continue to do so. It is BECAUSE we are capable and even willing of doing this that we automatically assume other species would aswell and because some definitely would. Even if the ants, say, were as powerful as they are now but not targeting humans as a species whatsoever and were pacifist, humans would absolutely make a move against them once they found out just how powerful (especially in the long run) they are. As humans we are obviously team human and want us to thrive as THE species on the planet and will eliminate any threat that prevents us from doing so. But there is no real deeper moral meaning besides fear and obeying the laws of nature. It doesn't matter what type of person the king is or any of the ants. They are genetically and biologically superior to us in the long term and must therefore "be destroyed before they can destroy us". Questions of would they, would they not are quickly dismissed due to risk. We pride ourselves now on our empathy and emotion but when shit really hits the fan, its back to the roots. And I think this is brilliantly brought out by this arc. The king has not understood this yet. He believes naively he can negotiate points like inequality etc. But we all here point out perfectly that it doesn't really matter what he did, what he's doing, how he's changing or what he's planning on doing. He is just another threat too powerful and needs to be eliminated. When all is said and done, we are still just animals.

This might be a bit late but I view merurm and light yagamis mentality about the world very similarly they are both corrupted with so much power and have their mind set on the “greater good” of humanity by doing this and taking out the evile people so innocent may live in peace idk just a fun little comparison I I thought of

The Ant King wavering between Ant and Human with his contradictory ideals is similar to that of a child. Also, Togashi deliberately made this arc take place in a country similar to the North Korean communist dictatorship for a reason, a political system which supposedly aims to rid its society of inequality through extreme collectivism similar to how Ants work, yet human qualities of individualism, pursuit of power and hierarchy will inevitably contradict such a society.

In this episode I noticed how Netero was becoming the evil one and the King the good one. The King displayed multiple good characteristics: - Power is not there to be abused, but for protection, especially for protecting the weak. - He acknowledged that those who are weaker have potential and that he might not know their potential if he kills them. - He admitted that he is open to influence, one of the most important things. - He is willing to get to know someone like Komugi or Netero, without escalating the situation, despite his most important person (Komugi) was fataly injured. There are enough humans who wouldn't remain peaceful at this point and directly start to fight, without being willing to talk. For a successful relationship, the relationship researchers Gottman have also stated how friendship, meaning getting to know someone continually and being curious, is the foundation of a happy marriage and relationship and that allowing oneself to be influenced by his partner is also important. I think it's really fucked up, that someone with the Kings intelligence and power and insanely fast learning ability is treated like this and that they want to kill him. And that Netero isn't even willing to find out what's possible. He said it's not enough when only he is spared... but he could have talked about that with the King. We know already that the King respects competence. Just think about how fast he got positively influenced by Komugi. Netero said his human and ant side are manifesting and neither one is dominant but that's bs, cause you both noticed how he is totally different than when he was first being born. His human side is steadily becoming more and more manifest, it's not like he has insane mood swings, kills people randomly and goes back to being nice. I don't think our world today is better, we have a lot of corruption, war, countries rule with power, stuff behind the curtains, inequality. The King is like: This is madness, this doesn't make sense. If he'd learn about how our food and water is poisened, he would want to end this, cause it doesn't make sense, it just weakens the health of people, people like Komugi, people who could be more. And he can't be bribed, since he is already more powerful than any other being apparently. So, how can his character become warped through power, if he started with it? He will have no need for it, just like someone who is rich eventually recognizes that it doesn't make you happy.
