Not completely sure about this but I think Shin believes that Lena is dead cause he heard her voice saying, "I won't forget" which was shown this episode as the thing that made snap out of the frenzy last episode. Shin wasn't wearing a para-raid back then so to him hearing her voice means that she has become a legion with "I won't forget" as her lingering words. Edit: never mind don’t think this holds up well since there’s not enough time between the start of the attack and Shin hearing Lena for Lena to have been turned into a legion. It’s just Shin knowing the republic can’t survive against the attack.

This is one of my favorite episodes because of all the symbolism. (No spoilers) One such example of the symbolism is that in 86, blue represents death and red represents life. That's why the legion's sensors are blue and the 86's mechs are red. From the novels, "a far east religion says that blue is the color of the world of the dead, and all cultures see butterflies as symbols of the dead." This symbolism is in 86 a lot. Trench warfare isn't particularly effective in this world and neither is infantry (though they do have more futuristic armor) but what really killed trench warfare in the real world was 1. Chemical weapons and 2. Airstrikes. The legion have a number of safeguards built into their programming. Both the use of biological/chemical weapons and airstrikes are prohibited. In fact some of this programming is so strict that it has interesting effects. If you remember the humanoid looking legion that blew themselves up in the first cour, those are called self-propelled mines and they are the closest the legion can get to making a human looking legion without violating the biological restrictions in their programming. Wes mentioned that the legion harvest materials from the battlefield and he's absolutely correct. The Republic does this too, which is the primary role of the Scavenger machines like Fido! In the first cour, most of the battlefields we see are completely empty despite how many people have died because the Legion are so efficient at scavenging for new materials (including brains).

I dunno guys.. I hope your right that Lena isn't dead, but at the very least, Shin seems to think so because he heard her voice. Also, the red spider lilies represent the afterlife (usually depicted in shows when showing someone who had died or is close to death in some way. Like if they interact spiritually or something) 🥺 this is a difficult show~ I love it, but ach! My heartu

17:57 Of course they can, that's how it's usually done in all wars. It's just one cannon that fires a couple of times a day, you can come up with a hundred plans to minimize the damage it causes. But that would be boring 😂

27:00 Wesley is right, but not entirely. They have been fighting the Legion for quite a long time, about eight years as far as I understand. They simply could not help but change their approach over the years. Let me give you a real-life example: the war in Ukraine has been going on for four years, and it has changed completely three times. - At first, there were maneuverable battles similar to the US wars in the Middle East or Vietnam (convoys, ambushes, air battles, no clear line of contact with the enemy). - Then there were stable fronts with tank breakthroughs and trench assaults like in World War II. - Now the front line is blurred, with drones swarming 15 kilometers in both directions. It is a gray zone with almost no troops, where a couple of soldiers hidden in underground burrows can “hold” kilometers of territory, with the main forces behind them. Tens of thousands of drones are in the sky at the same time, and it has become impossible to deliver supplies to the line of contact; this is also mainly done by drones. If an enemy or their burrow is detected in this zone, dozens of kamikaze drones fly to this point, arriving one after another until they destroy the target. Previously, fortifications were massive, made of concrete and metal, but now this is not possible. If your fortifications are spotted, they will be destroyed along with you, so instead of fortifications, camouflage and burrows have come to the fore. It has become a mix of World War I and Cyberpunk 2077. So I'm surprised that in the anime, their army hasn't adapted at all. Maybe there was an explanation for this in the book, but we're watching anime.

For some reason they skipped info about Shin's parents , in the novels after the general says " if your a match for monsters that means your a monster yourself" he continues with " especially when it's the blasted child born form mixing the blood of the two greatest monsters the imperial army has ever known " crimson witch" Maika and "Ebony soldier " Nouzen "

I'm seriously confused as to why they think the Federacy is treating the Eighty Six "so poorly" and dehumanizing them. They weren't even supposed to be fighting in this war in the first place, yet they insisted. People are all the time being very considerate to them, and trying to pretend they're equals would actually be insulting to their condition. Being treated differently and being treated lesserly are completely different things
