(Sorry, everyone, for clogging the page again.) Every single panel of this says "this is what it's all been building up to." In other posts, on e6 and on Patreon, I commented to the effect of: "Mandy is about to stare into the face of death." / "We first saw fear in Mandy when Alex had her at his mercy. Now there's the start of a new fear: The fear that her life is in the hands of people who want to take it." / "I look forward to seeing her genuinely pants-wettingly afraid that she's about to die." And that, as much as it hurts me seeing Vanessa and Alex get hurt, I wanted to see Vanessa power through pain too. And there...they...are. And just like Mandy's panic when Alex trapped her, it was worth the wait. Vanessa's even turned her sword to very specifically stab, not slash, Mandy; she's not just pulling her arm back, she's holding it differently. Whether she was striking to kill Mandy or to break the Mega Stone before (and she has the speed and precision to hit a moving target that small), I read this as her now being in maximum "even if it kills me, I. Will. Kill. You." mindset. Ever since she hit the breaking point, she really didn't so much "break" or "explode" like I was expecting. It's like her mind realigned itself to prioritize protecting Alex and taking Mandy down, no matter anything else, especially the cost to herself. She even blocked out Alex's own voice telling her to leave him and run. Just like she thought, "Even if it costs me my life." And then her mind brought back the memory of Fuyuki because she won't - or can't - let herself doubt that she'll do it. From the look on Mandy's face, she was *really* banking on Icy Wind working and is at a loss to explain how Vanessa's doing this or what to do next. And it's fully hit her that now she's the one fighting for her life. I don't think the Reflect trick is working a second time (or better, Vanessa shatters it). AND I wonder if Alex is still taking advantage of the distraction. I'm also gonna guess by now she doesn't know Teleport, so no easy escapes either. So unless she knows Destiny Bond or some other panic button move (black hole Pokedex lore? maybe even Metronome if you want to get "if all else fails, it's this and hope for the best or I die for sure" crazy, and I have ideas on why DB wouldn't save her either), or tries some other "I'm taking you with me" move (trade a potentially fatal hit from Vanessa with a potentially fatal point-blank Shadow Ball?), we might be about to get an answer on if she's ending this alive or dead. As the Pokémon Stadium announcer (mostly) said, "She just shrugged off that hit! Will this do it?!" (P.S. I'm not sure which is putting in more work: Mandy's dress vs her Mega Boobs, or Vanessa's sports bra vs all the moving she's done plus now the combination of Mega Icy Wind and her glass cutters ;3)

I think I know what happens next. Page 48 will reveal that Vanessa broke through either the "Reflect" or the Mega Stone. Look at the bottom panel. That's a blade thrust, and it is breaking through something...I just don't know which one.
