So I guess this was when Mandy and Valerie were still best friends.....In the end, Mandy would have still been happy if only she didn't accept the mega stone and gave up true friendship for power. Can't wait to see a follow up story or image set on Mandy after her time in rehab/jail.

So of course, when the WIP for this was posted, I habitually glanced at the Kirlia's hair to look for that certain style but figured, yay, another cute Kirlia at the beach, maybe this one from not long ago that was also by the sea https://www.patreon.com/posts/date-by-sea-129540362 . Then I saw, wait, that's Mandy's hair all right, and as if being with an Eevee isn't enough, that's definitely Valerie. I had wondered what we might see if we saw the first non-comic, non-extra page of the Stern Partner cast. But what I *wasn't* expecting that to be, even if this is as much a crossover with Jolly Partner? More whimsical memories~...and the first look at Kirlia Mandy outside of a flashback. And those "whimsical memories" pages have been renewable feel-good energy even after the comic ended. Now there's more, and they're of a happiness that, if Mandy and Vanessa's words (and Mandy's memories) are anything to go by, despite everything, Mandy may not have been able to feel it anymore but she still never forgot it. What a happy surprise. No words are needed, by now I think we can all imagine enough. Whether this can be seen as something Mandy (or, against all odds and likelihoods, Valerie somehow) is flashing back to, or dreaming about, or if it's just a look at Valerie's pre-evolution love of the sea and at both of their happier times, it really brings the love-between-friends happy. Much like the other whimsical memories, while it makes me feel an undeniable sadness from knowing what's coming and that this should have lasted but it didn't and it wasn't their faults, it's more feel-good energy and I still choose to be an optimist that their happier times weren't for nothing...for any of them.
