Spaceballs (1987) is the very first Mel Brooks movie that I ever watched and I really enjoyed it. I totally agree with you here on how delightfully stupid this one is because there are so many funny moments for me like "We Brake For Nobody", "Radar about to be jammed", "Ludicrous Speed", Dot Matrix's Virgin Alarm, and my personal favorites, Merchandising (where the REAL money from the movie is made) & combing the desert. Here's a mind-blowing fun fact: the actor who plays one of the Spaceballs who combs the desert with a giant Ace Afro pick and says "We ain't found s**t!" is the same actor who played Principal Franklin on iCarly, Tim Russ. BTW, I loved how you turned the tables on the "If you can read this, you don't need glasses." joke, because you were wearing contacts. And I even got a good laugh out of Pizza the Hutt. I can still eat pizza while watching that scene. #SpaceballsTheHashtag

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 RIP always to the comedic greats John Candy(Barf) and Joan Rivers(Dot)!!! So glad that you enjoyed this movie. This is my absolute favorite "Star Wars" parody. And it's got such a great cast. Another great John Candy movie that I very highly recommend is the 1988 "The Great Outdoors". Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Addie, you know what's funny about that alien scene near the end? That's the same actor who had the alien burst out his chest in the Alien movie. So this is literally twice for that guy 😂

Not sure by your reaction if you got it, but the singing Alien at the end was a reference to the classic Merrie Melodies episode "One Froggy Evening" (on Max, go to Looney Tunes, S20 E21).

Hi Addie, That scene in the diner at the end with the "Alien" reference, The actor in that scene is the same one from the "Alien" movie, which is why he says "not again"

Yes, it's the legendary John Hurt... though Addie may know him better as Ollivander. He also had a very... 'divine' minor role in Brooks' "History of the World, Part I." 😏

I have no idea where he got it, but my dad actually had "Spaceballs the Mask" during the pandemic.

A few lesser-known but noteworthy casting choices: - Dom DeLuise voices Pizza the Hutt (he also played the director at the end of "Blazing Saddles" and Don Giovanni in "Men in Tights"). - The newsreader who breaks Pizza's death is played by Jack Riley, another Mel Brooks regular. - That's Stephen Tobolowsky (Ned from "Groundhog Day") in a fairly early role as the officer who chastises the troopers for capturing the stunt doubles of Lone Starr, the princess, Barf, and Dot.

Ok, even if it isn't a Mel Brooks movie. I think you would rather enjoy Police Academy. Also if you like spoof movies like this, you'd probably also enjoy Not Another Teen Movie which spoofs well teen movies like The Breakfast Club.

Daphne Zuniga was the perfect fit for this movie. I always liked her, and especiall loved her in "The Sure Thing" along side John Cusack, which would be another great watch along imo.

"Delightfully stupid" is a perfect summary for this film. Unlike "Blazing Saddles" there was no political or social commentary, it was just meant to make you laugh and poke fun at the sci-fi genre. One of the brilliances of Mel Brooks that isn't commented on is that each one of his films does its own thing. For this one he just wanted to have a good time.
