For those in the States, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday! Now that Thanksgiving is over... I can go FULL CHRISTMAS MODE!

For those in the States, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday! Now that Thanksgiving is over... I can go FULL CHRISTMAS MODE! Give me your holiday movie recs! I feel like I've watched most of the popular Christmas movies, but I'm sure there are still a few out there that I haven't seen! Here's a list of the big ones that I've already seen:

Not on the channel:

  • Elf

  • The Santa Clause movies

  • Home Alone

  • The Holiday

  • The Polar Express

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas and Jim Carrey's How the Grinch Stole Christmas - I know I've seen parts of these movies, but I'm not sure that I've seen them all the way through. I sat down to watch them with friends, but you end up getting distracted!

On the channel:

  • Die Hard 1 & 2 (and 3, but it's not a holiday movie)

  • National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

  • It's a Wonderful Life

  • A Christmas Story

  • Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

  • Gremlins

  • Scrooged

  • The Muppet Christmas Carol

  • Lethal Weapon (It's a Patreon Exclusive because it kept getting blocked on YT)

  • Love Actually (Patreon Exclusive)

I'm thinking about watching Jingle All the Way this season because I feel like i need that movie in my life, but give me your other holiday movie recommendations! If you're curious about any other movies I've already seen, you can check out my Letterboxd:

https://letterboxd.com/addiecounts/films/

Thank you all!!

Alex Lee

Home Alone 2? or Disney's A Christmas Carol (with Jim Carrey)

BobJosef

Arthur Christmas is a fun animated family movie I can recommend

Michael Bergeron

I think While You Were Sleeping is actually a good holiday movie that people tend to overlook as a holiday movie

Byrd N. Hand

- "The Shop Around the Corner" (loosely remade as "You've Got Mail") - "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947) - "The Bishop's Wife" - "A Christmas Carol" (1951) - "Scrooge" (1970) - "Black Christmas" (1974) 😏 - "Trading Places" (runs most of the entire holiday season, starting just before Thanksgiving and culminating on New Year's Day) - "Grumpy Old Men" - "The Holdovers"

Calbert

White Christmas, jingle all the way, Spirited (Staring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell), The animated Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey

Randee Carreno

Happy Friday, Addie! I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving. 😊 "Jingle All the Way" and "Polar Express" are definitely must-watches for me every holiday season. Maybe as a rewatch for the channel: "Home Alone 1 & 2", the "Santa Clause" trilogy, "While You Were Sleeping", "Sleepless in Seattle", "Elf", and "Christmas with the Kranks". Have a great day today, and a great weekend! 😊

Doug

Honestly, Addie, you've already seen a lot of the really good Christmas movies! But here are a few good holiday(ish) movies that it sounds like you haven't seen that you'd hopefully like. - Miracle on 34th Street (1947), it's one of the top classic Christmas movies of all time - Trading Places (1983), a very funny Christmas-adjacent movie (i.e. same category Die Hard) - The Holdovers (2023), a more recent holiday movie that got very good reviews - Batman Returns (1992), surprisingly this kind of fits both the holiday theme AND as the sequel to Batman that was on the channel a few weeks ago! - The original How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966). I can't speak to that Jim Carey movie but the original is a classic! P.S. If we're also including Thanksgiving, then throw in Hannah and her Sisters (1986), it's an academy award winning comedy centered around Thanksgiving gettogethers. P.P.S. Oops, looks like you saw Edward Scissorhands, I took that one off.

KingGoji94

Violent night. An action Christmas movie

Chase

Almost Christmas (2016) Christmas comedy/drama

Cameron Kerby

The Christmas Chronicles A Boy Called Christmas Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey) (rewatch) Ernest Saves Christmas (lol)

Shawn Goforth

Miracle on 34th Street (1947) Holiday Inn (1942) The Shop Around the Corner (1940) Serendipity (2001) The Apartment (1960)

Byrd N. Hand

Honestly, the second "Home Alone" movie is pretty much the same as the first -- just relocated to NYC. I'd rather she re-watch the first one before venturing into that one, especially given that I feel it's kind of awkward when a reactor doesn't start a franchise from the very beginning. 🤷‍♂️

Phil Stubblefield

Miracle on 34th Street (1947) How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) While You Were Sleeping (1995) Trading Places (1983)

Richard Maurer

Violent Night and Krampus.

Byrd N. Hand

She's already confirmed she'll be watching "Batman Returns" next month. She's seen the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," though, according to her Letterboxd account. I wouldn't mind an "Edward Scissorhands" re-watch, though, given it was one of her 4 now-'lost' reactions from her channel's infancy.

Steve

The only one I can think of is Silent Night (2021) not to be confused about the other movie with the same name from a different year!

David

Home Alone! Even though you’ve already seen it.

Ben

Your christmas or mine, This is christmas, Trading places, Blackadder's christmas carol (although its very much UK humour you might struggle with without the context of having seen the tv series)

Troy Sinegal

Hello Addie and happy Thanksgiving to you. For holiday movies you should see: 1. The Holiday (with Cameron Diaz) 2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey version) 3. A Christmas Carol (2009 version with Jim Carrey) 4. The Long Kiss Goodnight (with Samuel L. Jackson) 5. While You Were Sleeping (Sandra Bullock) 6. The Night Before (2015) 7. The Family Man (Nicolas Cage)

Kevin Cavanaugh

Elf. Home alone. Polar express

Thats MR. Baldamort

"Jingle All the Way" Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Child Anakin Skywalker .

Kevin Cavanaugh

Looking good Billy ray. Feeling good Louis.

Steve Mercier

So...it's got Kevin Spacey in it...ugh...but one of my favorite Christmas movies is The Ref, starring Denis Leary. If we can't stomach some K.S., Trading Places is always a fun watch.

JakeToll

Bad Santa

Byrd N. Hand

Do you people not read the full post?? She's already seen all of those 🤦‍♂️(though, admittedly, I'd rather she re-watch the first "Home Alone" movie before reacting to the second).

Justin

Christmas with the Kranks A Christmas Carol starring Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier) Ernest Saves Christmas

Jon Anderson

If you're in the mood for a romantic comedy with fantasy thrown in, I'd suggest Bell Book And Candle (1958) - I think it might be right up your street.

Doug

I think if I had to choose between her rewatching the original Grinch and Scissorhands I'd go with Grinch, but that's just me. 🤷‍♂️

Mark Dahlen

Trapped in Paradise stars Nic Cage, Jon Lovitz, and Dana Carvey. It's an absolutely stupid Christmas movie that I watch every year because it makes me laugh the entire time

BareJordan

It’s not a movie, but have you seen the Charlie Brown Christmas Special from 1965? That’s pretty classic.

Byrd N. Hand

I'd definitely rather she re-watch the first movie before reacting to the second one. It has to have been a number of years since she's seen it anyway, thus, who knows how well she remembers it?

Pendragon1951

pretty much anything on hallmark's christmas countdown list, there is one called The Knight before Christmas I'm prett sure you would fall in love with.

Travis Berzas

Well, since you have now watched The Hangover, I guess Bad Santa is not out of the question.

Ronny Boss

Might I suggest The Hebrew Hammer for our Jewish folks. It does have santa in it

Byrd N. Hand

She's seen it, as shown on her Letterboxd account... though "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" are NOT confirmed on her 'watched' list, but it's probably too late this year for her to watch either one.

Thomas Wetherell

Feature films: The Holdovers (2023) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) These ones are more short films rather than feature films and they are pretty dated, but they’re still Christmas classics nonetheless if you’re willing to include them: Frosty the Snowman (1969) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)

Doug

In addition to the ones already suggested in the comments, if you want to go in a totally other direction, there's the infamously terrible Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, which you could either watch the original or (probably even better) watch the MST3K version where they make fun of the film the entire time. 😄 (I can't speak to how easy or hard it is to find the original to watch, but the MST3K spoof version appears to be available via streaming service.)

Joe Cross

The Holdovers!

e4tless

Bad Santa is hilarious!

Alexander George

"While You Were Sleeping" a Romantic Comedy starring Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side, Gravity) & Bill Pullman (Spaceballs, Independence Day)

Mr. Writhms

"Violent Night" (2022) became a new favorite of mine, in the tradition of the unconventional Christmas movie with action and violence. Unlike "Die Hard" there is no dispute whether this is a Christmas movie or not. It certain IS! Please consider it!

Cody Cameron

Jingle All The Way, Yes Please. But Also suggsting all things Grinch, but also Home Alone 1 and 2

Joe Mallard

Definitely Jingle All the Way! Home Alone 2 is even better than the first one.

Tim Heron

A Princess for Christmas Arthur Christmas Stalag 17* *It's not a Christmas movie, per se, but it's set around Christmastime.

Byrd N. Hand

"Home Alone 2" is basically the same movie as the first, albeit just relocated to NYC. I'd rather she do a re-watch of the first one first. Also, "Jingle All the Way," despite being filmed in the Twin Cities metro area where I live, it's frankly a bit past my time; one particular moment honestly remains one of the most intelligence-insulting moments I've ever seen in a movie. 🤔

Billy Dancel

Klaus (2016)is a wonderful animated film on Netflix. Fred Claus (2007) is on Disney + Miracle on 34th Street 1947 is on Disney + A Christmas Story Christmas (2022) is on Hulu

Alex Lee

That's fair, but I wasn't going to suggest the first one, as she's already seen it, and these are my suggestions.

Kyle Brandon Sanger

I would recommend 'Jingle All the Way', its not very good, but its a guilty pleasure and it has Arnold it in so that's a plus... and yes, has some memorable and quotable lines. Although its not a Christmas film, 'Planes, Trains, and Automobiles' is a holiday classic and John Candy is a national treasure, RIP. I also have to highly recommend 'Krampus', its a modern classic, a holiday themed horror comedy that has no right to be as great as it is. The practical effects are top notch.

Robert Lemond

She should do Black Christmas(1974)

Chris Brown

Spirited (2022) Christmas musical comedy

Rob DW

Arthur Christmas (2011)

HeyHeyJK

"Krampus" and "In Bruges". Let it be known, however, that "In Bruges" takes place at Christmas time, but that factors very little into the plot. It's just in my top ten fav films of all time.

Rickie 1978

Boogie Nights is a great Christmas Movie, Please give it a watch.😍

SR2 Prod.

don't fall for this addie. Boogie Nights is a porn film 🙄

Daniel Goldberg

The 1951 version of A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim. This is by far my favorite, but the version with George C. Scott is good. And if you are a Star Trek or X-Men fan there is also a.version with Patrick Stewart. But like I said, I think the Alastair Sim version is the best. Being in black & white gives it an atmosphere that is perfect for the story. I’d avoid the colorized version. The 1940’s A Miracle on 34th Street is also very good.

Rickie 1978

A porn film? I didn’t know Burt Reynolds, Mark Whalberg, John C Reilly and Heather Graham Made Porn Films?

Daniel Goldberg

I disagree that It’[s a porn film just because it’s about the porn industry and its actors, but I do agree that it has as much to do with Christmas as the typical porn movie.

Carlo Glingani

Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) with John Lithgow

Rickie 1978

If Die Hard is considered a Christmas movie. And it is by lots of people, Then Boogie Nights is also. But that’s just my humble opinion.

inspectordh

Miracle on 34th street the 1940's version.

MattTheHazard

Elf, The Santa Clause (only one and two are worth watching) and Home Alone are pretty solid movie choices for Christmas and are common Christmas staples. All of them are comedies so you should enjoy them. Personally I'd recommend Bad Santa(only the first one) and Fat Man. Bad Santa is a crude comedy and it's rated R. Fat Man is not well known and is about a kid who gets coal for Christmas so hires a hit man to kill Santa. Fat Man is rated R and straddles the line between being genius and campy.

Michael Kemmet

Violent Night(2022) - dark action comedy - Starz/rental The Shop Around the Corner(1940) - romantic comedy - MGM+/rental Home Alone might still be worth it if only seen once or twice and not in many, many years.

thomas king

Miracle on 34th Street 1947 B/W version one of the true classics. White Christmas is a classic. Bad Santa, Meet Me in St Louis, A Christmas Carol 1951 or 1936 version. Jingle All the Way

Randolph Tirazona

For decades the first group were thee ones to watch! Mostly because there were only a few TV Channels and they played them year after year, but are beloved! "A Christmas Carol" (1951) "White Christmas" (1954) "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (1964) "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (1965) "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" (1966) "The Little Drummer Boy" (1968) "Frosty the Snowman" (1969) "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" (1970) "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" (1970) "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983) "Little Women" (1994) "Crown for Christmas" (2015) "The Christmas Chronicles" (2018) "Christmas Jars" (2019) Her name is Hannah! "The Christmas Chronicles 2" (2020)

Luis Fernandez

In order of preference: Scrooge (1951), Scrooge (1970), A Christmas Carol (1984), A Christmas Carol (1999) Unordered: Miracle on 34th Street (1947), The Family Man (2000), Arthur Christmas (2011)

Brian Nix

From your list, I would say the top of the list, in order is best - 1. Elf (a modern classic!), 2. The Santa Clause (1 anyway), and 3. Home Alone (same). Not from your list, I would say 1. the CGI Grinch (Benedict Cumberbatch), 2. Ernest Saves Christmas, and 3. Batman Returns

David Martin

Klaus Jingle Jangle The Preachers Wife

Sean

Jingle All the Way is a good choice. I just saw Red one and enjoyed it as well.

Matthew Smith

Jingle all the way is a must watch, but so is ELF

Andrew Storing

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York

Gremlin8723

Highly recommend klaus. It's a feel good christmas story that hits ya right in the feels.

Beth Brown

Addie, Please do Daddy's home 2. I know it's a sequel, but i actually that one before the first one and u don't need to see the first to enjoy it . it's very fun and the year i bought it i saw it 6 times that Holiday Season. You will love it. Also , please watch Jingle all the Way. it's hilarious and heart-warming.

Simone's Coconut Squire

My childhood favorite was Santa Clause Conquers the Martians. If you’ve seen it, you know. If you haven’t, you’ve gotta be intrigued by the title, right?

Byrd N. Hand

Except "Die Hard" takes place during Christmas in its entirety, whereas only a brief segment of "Boogie Nights" does. I'm all for Addie reacting to "Boogie Nights," but not during the holiday season.

Philip Davetas

I watch DIE HARD every xXxmas eve, but when I saw it as a teenager it was in July. There's a DIE HARD children's book which I bought for my son. We get a kick out of the cuss phrase that makes series iconic.

Byrd N. Hand

Alas, she's already seen the first 2 Narnia movies, as well as the original Rudolph and Grinch TV specials, according to her Letterboxd.

Byrd N. Hand

To potentially avoid any confusion for Addie, it should be noted that "The Preacher's Wife" is a remake of "The Bishop's Wife."

Future_Boy85

I would like to suggest: • Trapped in Paradise • Dr Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas • Ernest Saves Christmas • Jingle All The Way • The Ref • Office Christmas Party • Home Alone

The Uber Geek

Fatman with Mel Gibson, Batman Returns, Silent Night (2023)

Hey Addie, happy holidays! I know some good Hallmark Xmas movies, - Ghosts of Christmas always (2022) - On the 12th date of Christmas (2020) - A Dickens of a Holiday (2021) And some anytime movies I think you’d like - Maverick (1994) - Hidalgo (2004) - Joe versus the Volcano (1990) - Sleepless in Seattle (1993, some scenes happen during Xmas) - Miracle (2004, “…”) - The Family Man (2000, “…”)

Doug

Boogie Nights is a great movie, I’m all for Addie watching it at some point. 👍 It has nothing to do with Christmas though. 🤷‍♂️

Doug

I’ll second In Bruges being a great movie that’s not really a Christmas movie.

fire12wife

The Family Stone (2005) starring Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Luke Wilson, Claire Danes, Diane Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Craig T. Nelson, Elizabeth Reaser, and Ty Giordano! An uptight, liberal businesswoman accompanies her boyfriend to his eccentric and outgoing family's annual Christmas celebration and finds that she is a fish out of water in their free-spirited way of life! A fantastic all-star cast in a hysterical movie! It's a Christmas must-see!!!

Raj Hudek

It's refreshing to find someone that actually likes this movie. It is one of my favorite Christmas movies of modern yuletide-themed films.

PHILLIP CORNISH

Hi Addie, not counting those you have already seen, my favourite Xmas films are the following. (The Bishop`s Wife) 1947 Cary Grant, (Miracle On 34 th Street) 1947, (Scrooge) 1951 Alistair Sim, these I try to watch as close to Xmas Eve as possible. If you have not seen it yet. I find (White Xmas) 1954 Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney & Vera Ellen, a wonderful Xmas Day film. Others I enjoy are (The Shop Around The Corner) 1940 Margaret Sullavan & James Stewart. (The Man Who Came To Dinner) 1941 Bette Davis & Monty Wooley. (March Of The Wooden Soldiers) 1934 Best version of Babes In Toyland, Laurel & Hardy. (Trading Places) 1983 Eddie Murphy & Dan Aykroyd. (A Mom For Xmas) 1990 Olivia Newton John & Doris Roberts. (Home Alone 2 : Lost In New York) 1992. (While You Where Sleeping) 1995 Sandra Bullock & Bill Pullman. (The Long Kiss Goodnight) 1996 Geena Davis & Samuel L. Jackson. (Home Alone 3) 1998 different family with Young Scarlett Johansson, not as well rated but I enjoy it. Two films I believe are a continuation of Doris Roberts character from (A Mom For Xmas), are (Mrs. Miracle) 2009 James Van Der Beek & Erin Karpluk. (Call Me Mrs. Miracle) 2010 Jewel Staite & Lauren Holly. Finally, two other`s I have enjoyed but like Home Alone 3 they are lower rated, are (Xmas With The Kranks) 2004 Tim Allen & Jamie Lee Curtis. (Unaccompanied Minors) 2006. Hope this helps.

Kyle

DEFINITELY stupid, but I love the movie, they're all great together and it has some good Christmas spirit to it (eventually).

Kyle

Well now we're going to have to get your opinion on the classics you've already seen that won't be on the channel.

fire12wife

Mine, too! I know lots of people that love this movie! I have found that many more people haven't seen it, or even heard of it, than those who didn't like it. We'll just have to keep spreading the word!!!

Mathew Coughlin

I know I mentioned/recommended Klaus the other month but mentioning it again. I highly recommend it. I just watched Christmas with the Kranks yesterday at my parents. Also, no Christmas movie list would be complete without the best Christmas movie of all time, Die Hard.

Steven Fordham

Even though you've probably seen it, and it's not actually related to Christmas, The Sound of Music is one of those family feel-good movies around the holidays.

Raj Hudek

Agreed! Just keep recommending it till they have no choice!

Neversure

- Home Alone 2 - Truce in the Forest - Sabaton song "Christmas Truce"

Byrd N. Hand

It still baffles me that your "Lethal Weapon" reaction got blocked. 🤔 I've *never* seen any other reaction channel run into copyright troubles with those movies. 🤷‍♂️ And the second one is my favorite.

JAKH

"Violent Night" (2022) David Harbour, John Leguizamo "R.E.D." (2010) Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich "The Last Boy Scout" (1991) Bruce Willis, Damon Wayans, Halle Berry, written by Shane Black "The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1996) Geena Davis, Samuel L. Jackson, written by Shane Black "Grumpy Old Men" (1993)

Bryan Dempsey

There is a beautiful sequel to A Christmas Story that came out a couple of years ago. A Christmas Story Christmas. Highly recommended.
